☠ author's note ☠
I really milked this camping trip for all it's worth, huh? Three whole chapters of outdoor shenanigans! I regret NOTHING. Anyway, here's the conclusion of our little nature excursion! Hope you enjoyed this slightly more chill setting (apart from, y'know, chapter 12's 👉🏻👌🏻 situation) because don't worry—there's PLENTY of time for everything to go spectacularly to shit later <3
MY KIWI HEAD 🥝🤧 I genuinely love him so much and I'm as surprised as you are! Who would have thought?? I seriously had ZERO intentions for Takama when I started this—no plan, no backstory, nothing. He just showed up in my brain one day demanding rights.
Maybe I love him so much because he's the only one with more than two functioning brain cells? Like, the man is just... chill. Nice. Using his fucking brain. Being all wise and grounding while everyone else is having emotional crises left and right. THE VOICE OF REASON IN THIS CIRCUS.
Takama x Reader endgame??? Jkjk this is a Jeon Jungkook fanfic ☝️ ...which doesn't mean shit won't happen before/after 👀
ANYWAY I'll leave you to make your own assumptions about our kiwi boy. All I'm saying is that sometimes characters write themselves into your heart and there's nothing you can do about it. Is it just me as an author having unhealthy attachments to my own creations? PROBABLY! You tell me!
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go cry about my fictional characters for the fifth time this week. It's only Tuesday. Send help.
xoxo 💋

The morning hike with Chaewon was exactly what you needed—fresh air, quiet trails... No drama.
But of course, you can't have nice things in Kkangpae.
Not when you return to find V lounging on a log like some tragic hero while J-Hope patches up his split lip.
"What the hell happened here?"
You eye the scene, already getting a headache. The thorny scent of roses fills your lungs as V gives you what immediately recognize as a smug smile.
"Just a little disagreement." V's smile is all teeth despite his busted lip. "Jeon can get rather feisty when he wants to."
J-Hope just rolls his eyes, clearly done with V's bullshit. He hands you a sanitary napkin without looking up, too busy sorting through his medical supplies—which basically means please help me deal with this drama queen.
You crouch next to V, ignoring how his eyes track your movement like he's a cat and you're the bird he wants to catch. The napkin comes away bloody when you dab at his lip, and his body tenses slightly under your touch—barely noticeable if you weren't trained to pick up on these things.
"Careful now." His voice drops low, playful. "I might bite."
You don't miss a beat.
"You bite, you get no help." The words come out flat, unimpressed. "I'm not one of your fangirls, V."
His games might work on others, but you've seen enough of his thorny side to know better.
Those roses have teeth.
A low chuckle breaks the tension. J-Hope's back with his medical supplies, but V's still watching you—though now with something that might be respect.
Or whatever passes for respect in that thorny mind of his.
"You really had it coming this time." J-Hope clicks his tongue, cranky doctor mode fully activated as he settles back down. "Jeon isn't someone you poke for fun without expecting consequences."
"Me?" V's eyebrow shoots up, all wounded innocence. "I was just having a friendly chat. Who knew our brooding Chief still had some fight left in him?"
The act doesn't fool anyone—especially not J-Hope, who (you bet your ass) has been patching up the aftermath of V's friendly chats' for years.
"Friendly chat?" J-Hope scoffs, dabbing at V's lip with more force than strictly necessary. "You two always turn everything into a dick-measuring contest. One of these days someone's gonna end up with worse than a busted lip."
V leans toward you like he's sharing a secret, mischief written all over his features. "He's just worried he'll run out of medical supplies if we keep this up."
You expect J-Hope to snap back—he usually does when people get like this.
But he just sighs, shoulders heavy with a worry that feels too genuine for the Kkangpae's ruthless doctor.
"Or maybe I'm worried you'll end up with a split skull, dumbass."
It's weird, the way it dribbles from his lips—like actual concern.
Which is weird in a place like this, where caring too much can get you killed. But then again, J-Hope's always been different. Maybe that's why he's one of the few people V actually listens to.
Sometimes?
V's eyes meet yours, like he's either hunting for something or escaping whatever was swirling in the doctor's pupils. Though, as everything with V, it vanishes instantly behind that shark-like grin.
"Ah, Hobi, always looking out for me. What would I do without you?"
"Probably be lying in a ditch somewhere." J-Hope says it casually, but his snark feels less blunt now.
He gives V's shoulder a quick pat—kinda saying 'you're patched up, now get out of my face.' V nods his thanks, but his attention is already sliding back to you. His gaze lingers a bit too long, assessing.
"You've got a steady hand," he drawls, and you know he's not just talking about your first aid skills.
Thorns prickle your skin.
"And you've got a death wish." You hand the bloody napkin back to J-Hope, keeping your voice flat.
Unimpressed.
V's laugh shatters in the quiet. "Oh, you're interesting. I like you."
"Was that supposed to be a compliment?" You arch an eyebrow at him. "Coming from someone who just got his ass handed to him by Jeon, I'm not sure how much that's worth."
His smile widens; ever so slightly. Like what you said made him feel something—bad or good, you really don't care, but it's like his vines are slowly creeping into your lungs.
You just sigh, shrug it off. It's not your problem.
You've got enough on your plate without getting caught up in whatever dick-measuring contest is going on between V and Jeon.
Your attention abruptly shifts to Takama, sitting cross-legged in the grass like some zen master on his coffee break. Despite looking perfectly relaxed with his can of coffee, you know better—the man's probably cataloguing every movement in a three-mile radius.
He's just that kind of observant. It's just how he is, what he does, that much is clear from your training sessions with him.
Persistent without being belligerent; consistent without being insistent.
It's weird seeing him in casual clothes. The navy sweater and white collar combo is a far cry from his usual tactical gear, making him look almost... normal. Like he could be anyone's slightly intimidating older brother instead of Jeon's deadly second-in-command. Even his loose jeans seem deliberately chosen for comfort rather than combat.
He doesn't move a muscle as you approach, eyes fixed on the horizon like his mind has found refuge among the spongy dunes skittering away in the sky.
Or maybe he's just really into his morning coffee.
You plop down beside him, the damp grass immediately soaking through your pants because of course it does.
"Peaceful morning, isn't it?"
You break the silence, knowing Takama won't. Man's got the conversation skills of a particularly stoic rock when he wants to.
There's something calming about his presence though.
Like he's the drizzle after the hurricane.
Plus, he probably won't try to murder anyone over breakfast. Unlike some people you could name.
"Peace is rare around here." The corner of Takama's mouth quirks up slightly. "Savor it while it lasts."
You settle into the comfortable silence, watching the horizon paint itself in morning colors. Next to Takama, even coffee breaks feel philosophical.
"You and V," he starts, offering you the can. "You get along?"
You grab it and take a sip, considering your answer. The coffee's gone lukewarm.
"Hmm."
Yeah that's your answer, because you don't really know what to reply. It's definitely not a yes, but you don't... hate him either?
"He's a wildcard, but I can handle him," is what you end up settling for.
What follows is Takama's laugh—quiet, understated like everything else about him.
"V is... unpredictable. But he's loyal to the gang, in his own way." He pauses, choosing words carefully. "Just watch your back. Testing people is how he entertains himself."
You pass the can back, watching him take another sip. The liquid works through a swallow down his throat, and his Adam's apple bobs slightly. His head tilts towards you when he notices you've gone silent.
"And Jeon? How do you find working with him?"
The question makes your skin prickle, and you know it's not because of how sudden it is—but because of something else, as well.
Images from last night force their way through your mind like a wiggling worm unwilling to let go—callouses on skin, that silver lip ring, the way he'd touched you like you might break.
You take your time answering, very aware that this is Jeon's right-hand man asking—and that your neck probably still has marks his mouth left behind.
But you're not about to tell Takama that.
"He's... intense." You focus on shredding a blade of grass, needing something to do with your hands. "But we kind of... get each other, I guess."
Takama finally looks at you, and fuck—there's way too much understanding in those gray eyes.
Because with V you have a noncommittal answer.
But you just said you get along with Jeon. Kinda.
He doesn't comment on it, and it makes sense—being Jeon's second means he probably sees more than most.
About how hard exactly it is to be in Jeon's circle. Not part of it, not even near—just hovering.
It's not easy, you know that much.
"Jeon respects strength," he says quietly, like he's sharing a secret. "Stand your ground, and you'll earn his respect."
A pause. Then he adds, hushedly:
"Maybe more."
Your pupils flicker between his, trying to parse whatever the hell he means—but nothing in there gives you a hint.
He simply smiles, getting up and helping you up too.
You both turn back to watch the camp wake up, the morning routine starting to buzz around you.
Someone's cursing about cold showers. Someone else is complaining about AD.
You take another sip of lukewarm coffee, letting the bitterness ground you. It's easier than thinking about what maybe more might mean, or why your stomach churns at the thought.
Besides, you've got enough on your plate just dealing with regular Jeon.
You don't need to add cryptic messages to that mess.
Tumblr media
The peaceful morning doesn't last long—because this is Kkangpae you're talking about.
Moon's voice cuts through your post-gossip haze, drawing everyone to the center of the camp like a very formal shepherd. Some people look about as thrilled as you feel about being up this early.
"All right, everyone!" He's got that tone—the one that says 'this is mandatory fun and you're going to like it.' "For today's lunch, we're doing something different. Group bibimbap, but with a twist: you'll work in pairs."
A ripple of murmurs spreads through the crowd. You catch Takama's eye—he just raises an eyebrow like 'here we go again'.
"These pairings," Moon continues, all business in his long coat despite the casual setting, "are chosen to mix different divisions and personalities. It's about teamwork and learning from each other."
You barely hold back a snort. Trust Moon to turn lunch prep into a team-building exercise.
Your attention snaps back when he calls out, "Y/N, you're paired with JM. I expect great things from you two."
Well, that could've been worse. At least JM's not likely to stab you over vegetable chopping techniques.
When you reach him, he's already smiling that gentle smile that makes him look more like a kindergarten teacher than a gang's financial mastermind.
"Looks like we're a team." His voice matches his whole vibe—calm as a lake on a windless day. "Any ideas on what we should tackle?"
You're about to answer when a groan cuts through your chat with JM.
You turn to see AD looking like someone just deleted his gaming setup, while J-Hope's already got that 'done with this shit' smile plastered on his face.
"Bro, why the fuck am I always paired with your annoying ass?" AD slumps against a tree, all dramatic like the gremlin he is.
J-Hope just rolls his eyes. "Because Moon loves to torture me, that's why. Come on, let's just get this over with."
Your eyes inevitably roam around the clearing, taking in the other pairings.
Jeon and Chaewon—they acknowledge each other with matching professional nods, something like 'we respect each other but let's keep this strictly business' hovering over them.
Takama and Jessi make an oddly perfect pair, his zen energy somehow containing her wildfire spirit as they huddle together, already plotting.
V's got Yunjin trapped in what looks like his usual chaotic storytelling, though she seems to be holding her own—and then there's Eunchae and Sakura, who look like they're planning to turn lunch prep into some kind of competition.
Meanwhile, Kazuha's hanging onto Moon's every word like he's sharing the secrets of the universe instead of just bibimbap instructions.
"So." JM's gentle voice pulls you back. "Should we handle the veggies? I think we could make a great team in chopping and prepping them."
"Sounds good to me." You find yourself matching his easy smile. "Let's show them how it's done."
At least someone in this chaos circus knows how to be normal.
You follow JM to gather supplies, falling into an easy rhythm. His gentle energy is oddly reassuring, and makes even veggie prep feel zen.
Plus, he actually knows what he's doing, which is more than you can say for half the pairs around you.
Because AD's already whining about something while J-Hope ignores him completely.
Yeah; that's Kkangpae for you.
But then you catch sight of V with Yunjin and your stomach turns, why, you don't know. Poor Yunjin's holding her knife like she's never seen one before, eyes darting around nervously.
And its knives, so yeah, V swoops right in.
"Let me show you," he purrs, and fuck him for actually sounding smooth.
You see his hand sliding over hers, like he isn't the same person who had blood on his lip an hour ago.
"There's a rhythm to it, like a dance." You watch him press closer, caging Yunjin with his body while he guides the knife. "Feel the movement. It's about confidence, purpose."
"Like this?" Yunjin's voice is small, breathless.
"Exactly like that." He eases into it. "Every slice tells a story of precision and care. And you, Yunjin, have a knack for it."
You grip your own knife tighter, fighting the urge to stab those thorny vines right out of the air. He's charming, you'll give him that.
But you fear the sweet floral scent roses simply masks decaying waste underneath.
And he needs to stay the fuck away from Yunjin.
You can't help noticing how she melts under his attention, all shy smiles and batting eyelashes. Like a moth drawn to a particularly deadly flame.
"There, you're a pro now." V steps back with a wink.
"Thanks, V." Yunjin beams up at him. "I think I've got it from here."
A slight movement catches your eye—JM's knife has stopped mid-chop.
His gaze darts between V and Yunjin like he's watching a car crash in slow motion, and it's real subtle, but you catch the way his jaw tightens.
"JM," you keep your voice casual, "you seem a bit distracted. Everything okay?"
He snaps back to his vegetables, gentle smile sliding back. "Oh, it's nothing. Just... observing the dynamics. It's interesting to see how different personalities interact, don't you think?"
You nod, watching V circle Yunjin. "True. Especially with V. Makes you wonder what goes on behind that smile."
"Exactly." His smile is halfhearted at best. "Sometimes, the most cheerful faces hide the deepest stories."
The way he says it makes you wonder just how many of V's stories JM knows.
And how many of them keep him up at night.
You and JM fall into a comfortable rhythm again, just hearing AD complaining about something, Eunchae's bright laughter, the clatter of pots and pans.
Then—crash.
Your head snaps up, muscles tensing automatically. Old habits die hard in Kkangpae.
It's Chaewon.
She's standing frozen, an overturned pot at her feet, staring at one of Jessi's guys like she's seen a ghost. His hand hangs awkwardly in the air where it had brushed against hers. You can see her breathing speed up—tell-tale sign of panic she's never shown before.
JM's knife stills mid-chop. Before you can blink, he's already moving toward her.
Jessi's there too, quickly motioning for the guy to back off—and he does, looking confused and apologetic, but you notice how Chaewon's shoulders drop slightly once he's out of reach.
JM murmurs something to her, too low for you to hear (though you bet that gentle voice of his could probably talk down a rabid bear). Chaewon gives a tiny nod, but her knuckles are still white where she's gripping her sleeve.
When Jessi touches her shoulder, you catch that silent conversation between the three of them.
The kind that comes from knowing someone's demons intimately.
"Alright, everyone, back to work." Jessi shouts. "Nothing to see here. Let's keep the focus on the task at hand."
Everyone turns back to their tasks, but you don't miss how JM stays close to Chaewon, or how Jessi's eyes keep scanning the crowd like she's daring anyone to make this worse.
JM hovers near her for another minute before coming back to your chopping station, and when he does, he picks up his knife and starts slicing carrots like nothing's happened at all.
"Guess we all have our off days, huh?" You keep your voice light, casual. No pressure.
JM's knife stills for a moment. He doesn't look up.
"Everyone has ghosts they're running from." The words come out soft. "Some just hide them better than others."
You let the silence settle. There's an unspoken rule in the gang—you don't go digging in other people's graveyards unless they hand you the shovel first.
"I'm gonna wash up," you mutter, already heading for the makeshift sink, feeling like he needs some silence before being back to normal.
Behind you, JM's knife resumes its path against the cutting board.
You're shaking water off your hands when footsteps approach from behind. Months in Kkangpae have taught you to be alert even for something as mundane as washing up after veggie prep.
"So you do know how to clean up."
The low drawl sends heat crawling up your spine. You know that voice—and the smirk that goes with it—without having to turn around.
"Turns out, I'm full of surprises." You flick excess water in Jeon's direction, catching his dangerous half-smile when you glance over your shoulder.
His chuckle hits you right in the gut, deep and rich and —fuck—suddenly all you can think about is last night.
His hands, his mouth, the way he'd made you shatter.
"Surprising indeed." There's that smug tone again. "Especially since I recall someone being too fucked out to help with cleanup duty."
"Well," you drop your voice low, just for him, "if you hadn't made such a goddamn mess, there'd have been less to clean up."
Your body remembers how close you'd been—how you'd ground against each other like teenagers, desperate and needy.
How his cock had felt pressed against you, so close but not close enough because someone didn't bring protection.
The frustration from last night still burns under your skin, reminder of what could have been.
If he'd just been prepared...
Jeon steps closer, and—fuck—even after last night, his presence still makes your skin prickle.
"A mess, you say? The way I remember it, you were just as responsible for the chaos."
"Chaos?" You meet his gaze head-on, refusing to back down even as heat crawls up your neck. "Don't flatter yourself, Jeon. It was... mild disarray at best."
His grin widens, and you hate how your eyes keep tracking that stupid lip piercing.
"Mild disarray? You were panting like you'd run through every back alley in Seoul."
You scoff, trying not to remember how he'd made you shake, how his hands had felt mapping every inch of you.
"Breathless, maybe. But let's not blow it out of proportion."
"Hah." His eyes narrow. "You've got a sharp tongue. But we both know—"
A shout from across the camp makes you both freeze. Your eyes meet his for a split second before you step apart, smooth as shadows. Professional. Like you weren't just thinking about climbing him like a tree.
Again.
You turn away, finally letting out that breath you'd been holding.
The banter gets you hot under the collar but fuck if you don't want more. Not that you'll admit that.
Even if part of you is already plotting round two.
This time with actual protection. Because seriously.
"Anyway," his voice cuts through your thoughts, "we should get back to work. Long day ahead."
"Right." You nod, and then go right back to prepping veggies.
Yeah. This is going to be a very long day indeed.
Tumblr media
The smell of bibimbap hits different after spending all morning chopping vegetables next to JM's weirdly zen energy.
And yup—everyone's gathering around the portable tables, looking stupidly proud of their contributions like they didn't just spend half the morning complaining about Moon's team-building exercise.
You grab a spot next to Yunjin, who's already halfway through telling you about her latest drama obsession; eyes practically sparkling as she waves her chopsticks around.
"No but listen—the main lead thinks his brother died in that fire, right?" She leans in close, pink hair falling in her face. "But then in episode sixteen we find out he's actually been alive this whole time! Living in China!"
You nearly choke on your rice. "That's the most unrealistic plot twist I've ever—"
"Mind if I join?" Takama's calm voice slices through Yunjin's enthusiastic plot summary; slight smile that makes him look more like a monk than Jeon's deadly second-in-command.
"Pull up a chair." You scoot over to make room. "Yunjin's educating me on the finer points of melodrama."
"Ah." His eyes crinkle as he settles in. "The ones where everyone's secretly related and nobody stays dead?"
"Exactly!" Yunjin beams. "Like this one where the brooding CEO's got a secret relationship—"
"Should've fought harder for the meat distribution," you murmur, poking at your mostly vegetable bibimbap.
Before you can finish sighing about your protein deficiency, Takama's chopsticks appear in your line of sight, depositing a generous portion of beef onto your plate.
"Here. I prefer vegetables anyway."
"Liar." But you're already mixing the meat into your rice, trying not to look too pleased. "Thanks."
Yunjin pouts at that, surely expecting some meat too (even when her plate shows basically 0 vegetables anyway). You kick her under the table, and she almost bounces with a chuckle.
"So, V's actually a really good teacher," she says dreamily, pushing her rice around. "Did you know he used to work in a restaurant?"
You cough.
V's "restaurant" experience probably involved more knife-work than cooking.
"Is that so?" Takama asks, slightly puzzled.
"Mhm!" She sighs, all starry-eyed. "And he's so patient. The way he showed me how to hold the knife—"
"Speaking of knives," Takama cuts in smoothly, "your technique has improved, Y/N. Been practicing?"
You're grateful for the subject change. Watching Yunjin moon over V is like watching a butterfly land on a Venus flytrap.
"Yeah, well. Can't let the Seduction Division down, right?"
His smile is small but genuine. "Right."
Movement then catches your eye—Chaewon's heading your way, black bob bouncing with each step. She smiles when she spots you, but you don't miss how she falters slightly when she notices Takama. Her eyes dart between him and the empty space beside you, calculating.
For a second, you think she might turn around.
But then she simply strides over like she owns the place, sliding into the spot next to you.
You don't miss how she angles her body away from Takama, though.
"What's got everyone looking so serious?" She bumps your shoulder playfully. "Don't tell me Yunjin's got you all hooked on her dramas too."
"Not all of us can be as cultured as Yunjin." You grin as Yunjin pretends to be offended. "We were just discussing the finer points of V's... cooking techniques."
That makes Yunjin blush, but Chaewon's eyes sharpen. You catch that protective glint—the same one she gets whenever any of the male members get too close to her division.
"Oh?" Her voice is light, but there's steel underneath. "And how did you find our resident psychopath's teaching methods?"
"Come on, he was really patient!" Yunjin pipes up. "And his hands were so—"
"Speaking of hands," Chaewon interjects quickly, "I heard there was quite the incident at morning coffee. Something about Jeon's right hook meeting V's face?"
Trust Chaewon to steer the conversation away from V's charms while gathering intel in the same breath. Sometimes you forget she's your Chief for a reason.
Heels on grass make your eyes stutter behind Chaewon's silhouette.
It's Jessi; obviously—who claims the spot next to Takama, all long red hair and confident energy.
She's probably the only person who can make eating bibimbap look like a power move.
"Well, well." She waves her chopsticks at your little group. "What's this about dramas? Please tell me someone's finally calling out how unrealistic those chaebol storylines are."
"We were discussing layers," you explain, watching her pile kimchi onto her rice with the same precision she probably uses to plan weapons shipments. "You know, how people aren't always what they seem."
"Like how our fearless Chief here—" she angles her head towards Chaewon, "—pretends to be all business, but I caught her crying over cat videos last week?"
"That was one time." Chaewon tries to glare but can't quite hide her smile. "And you promised not to tell."
"Please." Jessi snorts. "Everyone knows you're a softie under all that badassery. Remember when you threatened to shoot that guy who made Eunchae cry?"
"He deserved it." Chaewon's voice goes flat, protective instincts flashing. "Nobody messes with my girls."
"And that's exactly what we mean," Yunjin pipes up, somehow making even this observation sound sweet. "Everyone's got different sides. Like how Jessi acts tough but always saves the last strawberry milk for AD."
"Oi—" Jessi points her chopsticks at Yunjin threateningly, but there's no malice in it. "Just for that, you're testing all the new rifles when we get back to the castle. Someone needs to make sure they don't jam."
Something about the easiness of the conversation makes something unfurl in your chest.
It's weird seeing these deadly women just... being friends. Sharing lunch and inside jokes like they aren't some of the most dangerous people in Seoul.
But then again, maybe that's exactly what Yunjin meant about layers.
"Sooo," Jessi prompts, "who wants to share their deep dark secrets? Come on, don't be shy."
"Real subtle, Joo." Chaewon rolls her eyes, but you catch that tiny smile she always gets around Jessi. "What's next, trust falls?"
"I'd let you fall." Jessi winks, making Chaewon snort into her rice.
Takama, who's been quiet this whole time, surprises everyone by speaking up. "Sometimes the secrets we keep aren't about trust. Sometimes they're about protection."
"Like how we all pretend AD doesn't secretly feed the stray cats behind the castle?" Yunjin singsongs then.
That breaks the tension, sending ripples of laughter around the group.
Even Takama cracks a smile.
"Or how Jessi acts tough but cried during that dog commercial last week?" Chaewon dodges the grape Jessi throws at her head.
"That dog was reunited with its family," Jessi hisses, but she's fighting back a grin. "Forgive me for having a heart."
"Yeah, buried somewhere under those nine inch heels."
You smile at that, and you note how the sun is high over head now, warming skin through the trees.
You should probably get back to work—those intel reports won't file themselves. But for now, you let yourself enjoy this moment of peace.
Even gang members need lunch breaks sometimes.
Tumblr media
Dodgeball is usually fun. Keyword: usually—because when it's among deadly people... competitiveness is too light of a word.
You're in the middle of debating some strategy with Yunjin when Jeon's presence immediately freezes the whole camp. One second you're planning how to take down AD's team (he might be a tech genius but his aim is shit), and the next—
"Meeting. Council of 9, now."
Jeon's voice is calm, as usual. But it's precise, blunt in a way that makes your hackles rise. His face gives nothing away—typical—but something in his posture screams urgent.
The Council members share quick looks before following him into the trees. Moon's already at his side, glasses catching the sunlight. Chaewon squeezes your shoulder as she passes, and Jessi winks at Yunjin, but neither stops to explain.
Just like that, your cozy little camping trip turns into a war room—playful energy from moments ago gone, leaving behind the familiar sensation that comes with being in a criminal organization.
"Damn." Yunjin drops onto the bench beside you, pink hair falling in her face. "Even on a camping trip, we can't escape the threats."
Your little lunch group now feels weirdly empty without Jessi's loud energy and Chaewon's dry comments. You catch yourself staring at the path where they disappeared, like maybe if you look hard enough you'll develop x-ray vision.
So much for that epic dodgeball tournament you'd planned. Although honestly? Getting hit with rubber balls suddenly seems like the least of your problems.
"It's just how things work around here." Takama shrugs, wiping sweat from his shaved head.
Of course the dodgeball game's been put on hold, everyone too distracted by the Council's sudden disappearance to focus.
"Hey, Takemichi!" Eunchae bounces over, still flushed from running around. "Any idea what's going on? You're like, Jeon's right hand and all."
Takama's eye twitches at the nickname, but he doesn't comment on it. "No clue. But Jeon doesn't call meetings without good reason. Especially not during planned activities."
Your eyes drift to where the Council members vanished into the trees. It's odd seeing Jeon actually interact with people—the man's about as social as a brick wall. Even J-Hope, who he supposedly tolerates, barely gets more than grunts out of him most days. That whole don't-fuck-with-me hurricane aura of his keeps everyone at a safe distance.
And yet.
You'd fucked him.
Well, kinda.
Heat crawls up your neck as you mentally reminisce about last night.
Pride mingles with something else as you remember that untouchable Chief's face when he came all over your belly.
Focus, dumbass. Now isn't the time to replay your greatest hits. If Jeon's gathering the Council in the middle of fucking dodgeball, something's definitely wrong.
"Do you think it's..." Yunjin chews her lip, lowering her voice. "MDF?"
The mention of Myung-dong Faction makes everyone's faces go pale.
"Hard to say." Takama's voice drops to barely above a whisper. "But we did just wreck their trafficking ring. Hanjun's gone now. They're not known for letting that kind of thing slide."
You share a look with Yunjin and Eunchae. You remember Hanjun from your last mission—the way he'd crumpled when Kkangpae was done with him.
The way his whole operation had fallen apart like a house of cards.
Sakura's usually bright face is serious as she crouches next to you. "If it's MDF, we're fucked."
"They've been too quiet." Kazuha runs a hand through her wine-colored hair, eyes scanning the treeline like she expects assassins to materialize. "That's not their style. Not after what we did to their golden boy."
And she's right, isn't she? MDF isn't known for their forgive-and-forget attitude. Their silence these past weeks has been... unsettling. Like holding your breath underwater, knowing you'll have to surface eventually.
"Whatever it is, we need to be ready." Eunchae sighs. "Can't let our guard down. Not even here."
"We need to be united now more than ever." Takama's voice rumbles low as he scans the treeline."Division only makes us vulnerable, they might aim for that."
And he's right; because Kkangpae's strength isn't just in its firepower—it's in moments like this, when everyone's got each other's backs.
"Whatever the Council needs," you say, meaning it. "We've got their six."
The group falls quiet, the forgotten dodgeball lying between you like some sad metaphor for your interrupted normalcy. Somewhere in the distance, a bird calls. You almost miss it under the sound of your heart pounding.
A rustle in the bushes makes you lean back.
Though it's just J-Hope, looking way too serious for someone who was laughing at AD's failed dodgeball throws ten minutes ago.
"They need you." His eyes find yours, steady and unreadable. "Jeon asked for you specifically."
You share a quick look with Takama, and he's wearing the same exact puzzled expression as you.
"Me? Why would he—"
J-Hope just shakes his head. Great. Because being summoned by the dude you almost fucked last night during a secret Council meeting isn't complicated enough.
But you don't really have much choice, so you trail behind J-Hope like a kid being called to the principal's office, mind racing faster than your heart.
What the actual fuck could Jeon want? And why during the middle of dodgeball, of all things?
The Council's little forest hideaway comes into view, and suddenly you've got nine pairs of eyes drilling into you.
Great. Just great. Nothing like being stared at by the most dangerous people in Seoul while you're in workout clothes and probably still red-faced from almost getting beaned by AD's wild throws.
Jeon stands like a statue among them, and he speaks immediately upon seeing you.
"We have a situation that needs your input."
No greeting, no explanation, just straight to the point. Pure Jeon. You'd roll your eyes if you weren't so aware of every Council member watching you.
"Remember your first mission?" Chaewon continues. "The women we rescued? You were the only one who actually saw them in that room."
Of course you remember—hard not to, even if you wish you wouldn't.
That cramped, dark room with its rusty bars and stale air. Women huddled in corners like broken birds, some too afraid to even look up when you'd entered.
Your first real taste of what the Seduction Division actually does.
Not the glamorous spy shit you'd imagined, but the ugly, necessary work of saving people from monsters.
"Remember what any of the women looked like?" Chaewon presses.
You try to remember, but the thing that comes first is the smell of fear and desperation—thick enough to choke on.
Then it's their faces. Burned into your brain. And then... hers.
"There was one girl," you start carefully, watching the Council's reactions. "Couldn't have been more than eighteen. Skinny thing, but her eyes..."
You pause, searching for the right words.
"Even in that shithole, she was... I don't know. Like she was just waiting for a chance to burn the whole place down."
You catch the tiny shift in Jessi's jaw, the way her fingers tighten around her weapon.
The air feels like a forest fire waiting to happen.
"Dark reddish-brown hair," you continue, the details getting clearer as you speak. "Matted to hell, but you could tell it was beautiful once. And the way she held herself..."
"That's enough." Jeon interrupts you. "Your recollection could prove useful. We believe that girl is connected to one of our own. This isn't some random MDF hit."
Your stomach drops. Because shit—that... That changes everything.
MDF might be brutal, but they're not stupid.
Kidnapping someone connected to Kkangpae? That's not just an attack—it's a message.
A very personal message.
You watch the Council's faces, trying to read between the lines.
If MDF knows enough to target someone specific, how much else do they know? How deep have they dug into everyone's past?
The thought makes your skin crawl.
"Now we know this is personal." Chaewon's voice is ice-cold, all business. "The question is, how do we respond?"
"We hit back." Jessi's voice cracks like a whip, raw and broken. "Show those fuckers what happens when you mess with Kkangpae."
J-Hope reaches for her shoulder, ever the voice of reason. "I know you want blood, Jessi. But an all-out war will only get innocent people killed."
Jessi jerks away from his touch, but you see how her hands shake.
"I should've been there," she whispers, more to herself than anyone else. "I should never have left them alone."
The pain in her voice makes your chest tight; you've never seen Jessi like this—like she's barely holding herself together.
"Why don't we just storm their headquarters and slaughter them all?" V (who's been conspicuously quiet until now) raises his voice.
The guy is just leaning back against a tree, playing with a butterfly knife like he thinks he's the Joker or something.
"Picture it." His smile grows wider, more unhinged. "Their precious hideout painted red, bodies everywhere. We could string up their leaders—or what's left of them—as a warning."
JM gives him one look—one that somehow manages to pierce through V's psychotic haze. Like he's the only person besides RM who can actually rein him in when he gets like this.
V slumps back with an exaggerated pout, thorny aura receding slightly. The switch from bloodthirsty to playful is so fast it gives you whiplash.
"As entertaining as that sounds," JM's voice is steady, like a calm lake washing away V's chaos, "we need precision here. Not a bloodbath."
"You never let me have fun." V whines like a kid denied candy instead of mass murder. "But fine, we'll be civilized."
JM turns back to the Council. "Please continue. V's just... working through some things. He understands the need for balance."
Jeon's face gives nothing away, but you notice how his jaw tightens. Having to share space with V is bad enough—having to listen to his murder fantasies is clearly testing what little patience he has left.
"As I was saying..." Jeon continues.
JM gives V another one of those looks and V slumps against the tree.
The thorny scent of roses fades to something more bearable, though you can tell he's just waiting for another chance to suggest mass murder.
"I might have a better idea." AD clears his throat. "A bloodbath would be satisfying, sure, but we need intel first. Something clean and quiet that gives us some advantage."
You watch him run a hand through his messy blonde hair, thinking three steps ahead while looking like he just rolled out of bed.
"We know where their hideout is. Send in a small team, two people max. Get their data, their plans, their weak spots." He pauses, letting that sink in. "Information is better than bullets right now."
The Council members exchange looks. Even V stops fidgeting with his knife. You catch Jeon's shoulders relaxing slightly—he knows a good plan when he hears one.
"Stealth does play to our strengths," Jeon admits, and his eyes flick to you for a split second. "Who did you have in mind?"
AD jerks his chin toward you.
"She's perfect for this. Hanjun's well acquainted with Flower now, but Y/N? She was only there for the takedown. He never had time to report back about her or the other girls. But between all of them," he adds, "she's the only one who got to see all the girls."
Suddenly you've got nine of Seoul's most dangerous criminals staring at you. But you meet Jeon's gaze head-on, refusing to flinch.
Finally—a chance to prove yourself.
And maybe get some answers about what's really going on with MDF.
"She's just an ensign." JM mumbles. "She's gonna need backup."
The Chiefs exchange looks, probably running through a mental list of who they could trust not to fuck this up. Your heart's still pounding from being called in, from learning about this mission that could change everything.
"Jeon will lead this operation." RM's voice leaves no room for argument. Like he's announcing the weather, except the weather is your hookup being assigned as your partner.
Amazing, really love that for you.
"You're picking him for stealth?" V's voice goes high with indignation, like someone just insulted his knife collection. "I'm literally the Chief of Stealth Assassinations. What the actual fuck?"
Thorns prickle the air, sharp with offense. You definitely catch Jeon's tiny smirk—he's enjoying V's tantrum way too much.
"Jeon has the discipline this requires." RM's tone could freeze hell itself. "We can't afford your... creative interpretations of orders right now."
V opens his mouth—probably to suggest murdering everyone involved, knowing him—but JM slaps a hand over it. The look V gives him could kill a lesser man, but JM just raises an eyebrow.
"This mission's success is crucial." RM continues like V isn't plotting JM's death with his eyes. "We need strategy, not chaos."
You watch Jeon's face carefully. His expression gives nothing away, but you just know he's thinking the same thing you are:
How the fuck are you two supposed to focus on a stealth mission when you can barely keep your hands off each other?
"Come on," V's voice drags after getting rid of JM's hand, "we all remember how well these two work together. Like gasoline and a lit match. Either they'll kill each other or fuck like rabbits. Not ideal for a stealth op, eh?"
JM smacks his shoulder, but V just grins wider. Your face burns as Jeon goes rigid beside you, like a gathering strength.
If looks could kill, V would be six feet under from the glare Jeon's sending him.
You stare very intently at a patch of grass, fighting the urge to squirm, because V has no idea how close to home that "fucking like rabbits" comment hits.
Or maybe he does—you can never tell what that psycho actually knows.
"Enough." JM sighs. "RM's guidance is sound. Jeon, you're our best strategic mind. Tactical is probably our best approach right now."
Jeon's jaw works for a moment before he gives a sharp nod. "Understood. I'll lead the operation."
You let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding.
Stuck on a stealth mission with the guy you've secretly hooked up with, while his psychotic sworn enemy watches and makes sex jokes.
Just another day in Kkangpae.
"For now," RM's redirects the conversation swiftly, "let's focus on the task at hand. This camping trip was meant to build unity and trust. We can't lose sight of that."
Unity and trust.
Right.
Because nothing says team bonding like sending you and the guy you're dying to have sex with to infiltrate enemy territory while pretending you've never seen each other naked.
"There will be time later to prepare for the mission." He adds. "But while we're here, I expect everyone's full commitment to this team-building exercise."
Jeon surprises you by actually looking... chastened? as he gives RM a short nod. "You're right. My priorities were misplaced. I apologize for the disruption."
And that's... New. You've never heard Jeon apologize for anything.
But then again, RM's probably the only person in Seoul who could make him bow down. The amount of respect Jeon has for him is almost an entity of its own.
"No need to apologize." RM's stern expression softens slightly. "Let's refocus together on strengthening our bonds as a crew."
More team bonding. Because that's exactly what you need right now... bonding,̶ ̶o̶r̶ b̶o̶n̶i̶n̶g̶?̶
You give Jeon one last look before V's voice cuts through, all manic energy as usual.
"Last one back has to clean everyone's dishes!"
And then he just... takes off running like the psychopath he is, thorns receding with him. Because of course he'd turn this into a competition.
"Oh, fuck no!" Jessi kicks off her heels, already sprinting after him in bare feet. "I am not cleaning after his ass."
Chaewon and JM share this look—probably something like 'we're both too dignified for this shit' passing between them before they're running too, probably realizing nobody wants to risk V winning anything.
"How childish." J-Hope rolls his eyes, but AD's already got that gleam he gets when someone issues a challenge.
"Childish?" AD's grin is pure evil. "I bet I could eat enough for ten people. Give you something real nice to clean."
"You little shit—" J-Hope takes off after him. "Get back here!"
You glance back at Jeon and RM, both still walking like they're above such peasant activities.
But fuck it—you're already sweaty from dodgeball, might as well commit to the chaos.
"Think I'll take AD's strategy." You flash Jeon your sweetest smile. "Eat everything in sight, let someone else deal with cleanup."
You're running before he can reply, laughter bubbling up.
And then, merely a few second later, you hear his steady footsteps turn into something faster.
Looks like even the mighty Chief can't resist a challenge.
The campsite comes into view through the trees, and you pick up your pace.
You jog into the clearing, lungs burning, only to find V and RM already there.
What the actualfuck?
"How did RM beat us?" The words come out between gasps.
The man runs a criminal empire in designer suits, for fuck's sake. He shouldn't be able to outrun anyone.
V just grins that Cheshire cat smile of his and then, Jessi, Chaewon and JM stumble in next, all tangled together and cackling like teenagers.
"JM's face when I almost tripped him—" Jessi wheezes, red hair wild from running.
Everyone else filters in gradually, catching their breath and comparing notes on who cheated (definitely V).
But oddly enough, there's no sign (or sound) of J-Hope or AD.
Then—
"You absolute fucking cockwomble, let go before I rearrange your face!"
"Not happening, you lil' bitch. I'm not cleaning your blood off the floor again!"
You turn to find J-Hope and AD crashing through the underbrush like drunk bears, locked in what has to be the world's most undignified wrestling match. AD's blonde hair is full of leaves, and J-Hope's pristine turtleneck is covered in dirt.
Seoul's most dangerous gang, ladies and gentlemen.
Truly terrifying.
"You wanna fucking go, asshole?" AD thrashes like a feral cat, trying to land a hit on J-Hope. "I'll rip out your spine and use it as a fucking ethernet cable!"
But J-Hope's got him locked down, using his height advantage like the bastard he is. AD might be scrappy, but the doctor's got experience wrestling patients into submission.
"You need to get out of this unscathed first, you dumbass—"
"Then I'll download your consciousness into a punching bag," AD snarls, still fighting. "Have you getting hit for eternity, you piece of shit!"
Their little death match stumbles closer to camp. J-Hope's got AD in a headlock now, ignoring the increasingly creative threats being spewed at his face.
"I'll be patching you up after this, you psychotic gremlin." J-Hope finally slams AD into the dirt, probably enjoying this way too much. "Maybe I'll sew a live rat in your stomach. Let it chew its way out through your organs."
They keep wrestling, but it's getting pathetic—like watching two drunk uncles fight at a family barbecue. Both of them are red-faced and panting, shirts half-ripped from trying to hold each other back.
You can't help noticing they look wrecked—covered in sweat and leaves.
Actually...
"They must've been holding each other back the whole way here." You snort.
No wonder they're last. These idiots literally spent the entire race trying to murder each other.
"Ladies and gentlemen!" V's voice rings out like a demented game show host. "Our esteemed winners, graceful as ever!"
J-Hope and AD freeze mid-choke hold, finally noticing their audience.
The look of pure horror on their faces is priceless.
"Dish duty it is, boys!" Jessi's grin is absolutely feral.
AD shoves J-Hope off like an angry cat, but they're both too winded from their pathetic wrestling match to do more than hurl insults at each other.
"This is all your fucking fault!" AD jabs a finger at J-Hope's chest, looking about as threatening as a wet Pomeranian. "If you hadn't grabbed me—"
"My fault?" J-Hope's voice gets higher. "Big words from someone shaped like a fun-sized candy bar!"
"Say that again, you overgrown fucking giraffe!" AD tries to lunge but stumbles, still panting. "I fucking dare you!"
RM steps in before they can start round two of the world's most embarrassing fight.
"That's enough, you two. We all enjoyed the show, but it's time to work."
They both shut up immediately—even AD knows better than to test RM's patience. But the glares they shoot each other could probably melt steel.
"Can't believe I'm stuck with your ass for cleanup duty," AD grumbles, brushing leaves out of his blonde hair.
"Trust me, I'd rather perform surgery blindfolded. But maybe next time you'll think twice before dragging me down with you."
"As if I need help being slow from someone who runs like a drunk giraffe."
Their bickering fades as they head back to camp, still shoving each other like kindergarteners fighting over the last juice box.
Well. At least you'll enjoy a show during dinner time tonight.
Tumblr media
One would think dinner time would be dulled down now, after the Council meeting earlier.
But nope—gang members are scattered around the fires like this is some post apocalypse scavenging situation.
You can't help watching V with Yunjin. He's leaning in close and probably whispering some bullshit about knives being romantic or whatever gets him going.
And Yunjin—sweet, perceptive Yunjin who usually sees right through everyone's bullshit—is eating it up. She's doing that thing where she plays with her hair, pink strands twisting around her finger while she giggles at whatever murder joke V's telling.
You snort into your food, because you just don't get what's it with these two.
The weirdest part? Even knowing what V's capable of (the rumors about his "artistic approach" to killing make your skin crawl), you kind of get why people fall for his act.
He's got that whole dangerous charm thing down to an art.
"Hey stranger!" Eunchae drops onto the bench beside you, nearly knocking over your drink. Sakura slides in more gracefully across from you, because someone in your division has to have coordination.
"What was the super secret meeting about? You went in looking normal and came out all..." Eunchae waves her chopsticks vaguely. "You know. Intense."
"Classified." You shrug, trying not to think about what that meeting means for you and a certain hurricane-aura'd Chief. "Above your pay grade."
"Ugh, you're no fun." She slumps dramatically against your shoulder. "I wish I could join the Council just to know all the juicy stuff."
"We're here if you need to talk," Sakura adds quietly, and fuck—sometimes you forget how perceptive your division can be.
"Thanks." You bump Eunchae's shoulder, warmth blooming in your chest. These idiots might be professional honey traps, but they're your idiots. "I mean it."
You go back to your food, half-listening to Eunchae's story about some mark who thought cryptocurrency was foreplay. But your eyes keep drifting to V and Yunjin.
What's your friendly neighborhood psychopath plotting this time?
However, the first drops of rain quickly hit your food like tiny bullets. Within seconds, the drizzle turns into a full-blown downpour because of courseit does.
Nothing like a surprise shower to end your deeply suspicious dinner observations.
"Oh, come on." Eunchae snatches up her plate, already running for cover, chestnut hair plastered to her face by the time she makes it three steps.
Your eyes snap to where V still has Yunjin trapped in conversation. They're both getting soaked but Yunjin's still hanging on his every word, pink hair turning darker in the rain.
"Yunjin!" You pitch your voice to carry over the rain. "Unless you want to catch pneumonia, might want to wrap it up!"
She blinks like she's coming out of a trance, finally noticing she's halfway to drowned. The spell breaks—thank fuck—and she hurries over to you, gathering her stuff with slightly shaky hands.
"Thanks for the save." Her voice is quiet, almost sheepish. "Got a bit... distracted."
"Yeah, no shit." You grab her arm, steering her toward your tent. "Let's get inside before we both melt."
You dodge through the chaos of gang members running for shelter, curses mixing with laughter. Someone—probably AD—slips in a mud puddle and lets out a string of creative profanity that would make a sailor blush.
The relative safety of your tent feels like crossing a finish line. The rain hammers against the canvas, but at least you're dry.
Well. Drier.
The rain doesn't let up for hours, turning the campsite into something out of a moody indie film. But inside your tent? It's like a sleepover bubble—wrapped up in cozy blankets and the glow from Yunjin's phone where some poor actor is having his third dramatic breakdown of the episode.
Yunjin's using your stomach as a pillow, pink hair splayed across your hoodie while she decimates the bag of chips between you. Every few minutes her hand dives in without looking, too focused on whatever absurd plot twist is happening now.
"This one's actually decent," she murmurs, smiling at the screen where someone's probably discovering their evil twin or something.
"If you say so." You can't help grinning as the male lead clutches his chest like he's having a heart attack over a text message. "These writers must be on something wild. Like, who comes up with this shit?"
Her giggle vibrates against your stomach.
"That's why they're fun! You never know what's coming next." She tilts her head back to look at you. "Kind of like living here, right? Never a dull moment in Kkangpae."
"God, don't jinx it." But you're laughing too because she's not wrong. Your life has definitely taken some drama-worthy turns lately. "Though I hope we're at least more realistic than that."
You both fall into easy conversation, trading comments about the show and today's chaos. When the male lead starts laying it on thick with the female lead, you see your chance. Time to figure out what the hell V was playing at earlier with all that knife teaching.
"So." You poke Yunjin's side with your toe, aiming for casual. "What's with you and V today? The whole knife lesson thing seemed... weird."
Yunjin doesn't look away from her drama. Of course she doesn't.
"I mean, have you seen him?" She sighs dreamily. "He's like a walking thirst trap. Those hands..."
"Oh my god." You stare down at her pink head in disbelief. "You'd actually fuck him? Like, actually actually?"
She finally tears her eyes from the screen, twisting to grin up at you with zero shame. "Why not? Life's too short not to ride at least one psychopath, right?"
The silence stretches.
"What?" She raises an eyebrow at your horror. "You wouldn't?"
"Jesus fuck no." You mime gagging. "You know he probably has some weird murder kink. Like, he'd probably want to chase you through a haunted house with a knife while dramatic music plays."
"Haunt play?" Her eyes go wide  before she breaks into giggles. "That's... weirdly specific. But don't knock it till you try it, right?"
"Yun." You roll your eyes so hard they might get stuck. "He'd probably set up a whole haunted house just to get his rocks off."
"Okay but..." Yunjin props herself up on her elbows. "Haunted house but make it sexy? That's kind of genius."
"You're actually insane." You shove her shoulder, both of you dissolving into laughter. "I swear to god, if I ever hear spooky music from his tent—"
"You'll what, call the ghost police?"
Her laughter shakes your whole body, bright and infectious, and the small space of the tent makes this ridiculous conversation feel somehow safer, more intimate.
Just two girls discussing their terrible taste in men while hiding from a storm.
Even if one of those men happens to be Seoul's most notorious psychopath.
Yunjin flops back down, using your stomach as a pillow again. The drama's still playing on her phone, but you're too busy thinking about V's games to focus on whatever chaebol drama is unfolding now.
"For now," she sighs dreamily, "I'll stick to living through these ridiculous romances. Much safer than the real thing, right?"
You hum in agreement, watching raindrops race down the tent's surface.
"Sounds smart. But if you do decide to test out V's haunted house kink..." You poke her side. "I want every single detail. For science."
"Deal." Her giggle vibrates against your stomach. "But only if you keep saving me from his 'passionate teaching moments'. My knife skills are fine, thanks."
"Always."
The word comes out softer than intended, but you mean it. In Kkangpae, real friendship is rare as fuck. People either want to kill you, fuck you, or use you—sometimes all three.
But Yunjin? She's different.
And all the while; the rain keeps drumming steadily against the canvas, turning the world outside into a blur of gray and green.
In here, none of that exists.
Not V's thorny games, not Jeon's hurricane, not the Council's secret meetings.
Just you and your best friend, safe and warm while the storm rages on.
For now, anyway. Tomorrow's another story.

I’ve seen a couple juvenile takes on Twitter I want to address, that excuse two of Solas’ worst crimes we see in Veilguard: the sacrifice of the Disruption spirits, and his plan for Veilfall.
Disclaimer: Y’all know I love Solas very much, and he’s a fascinating three-dimensional character with complex and conflicting motivations. Because of that, he cannot be excused for every action he chooses to take. He doesn’t have clean hands - he’d tell you that himself. He can and will justify any of his actions with half-truths and noble goals. And his goals truly are noble for the most part, even if his solutions are extreme. So with that disclaimer aside:
First, the sacrifice of the Chaos and Disruption spirits. The justification I saw parroted Solas’ own self-serving justification to Felassan: “They died true to their nature doing what they loved. Let that be a comfort, that this war did not turn them into something they are not.”
Oof. It doesn’t matter that they ‘died doing what they loved,’ even if that’s true (debatable). It matters that they had no choice. Solas took the choice from them.  Solas misled and lied to them, lured them to their deaths, and sacrificed them like pieces on a chess board (remember his game with Bull and how he lost most of his pieces in order to win). He used these spirits in the same way Elgar’nan used all those poor level 1 bastards that we mow down as we make our way to the citadel. Both armies were uninformed, both were used as canon fodder, and both were sacrificed for the larger game by their ‘gods.’
Was this strategic? Yes, and honestly a pretty damn sound strategy, if unbelievably cold. But could this not also have been accomplished by asking for volunteers for a suicide mission? Yes. There’s an argument to be made that informing them exactly what Solas intended to do - use them as a distraction while an infiltration team retrieved the dagger - would jeopardize the mission. But he doesn’t have to divulge the details to achieve the same end result - he can mitigate it with a simple “I’m seeking volunteers for a mission that will almost certainly lead to your deaths. It is instrumental in ending the war, but I can’t tell you the details.” We know how loyal his people were. There’s a very high probability many would have agreed. But he didn’t do that. He robbed them of the one thing he’s otherwise extremely passionate about: freedom of choice.
Second, Veilfall. The painfully naive justification I saw was “what would be the point in saving the world if everyone in it was killed?” This is in direct opposition to what he himself admits, and assumes he isn’t willing to sacrifice thousands to achieve his goals (see above). His approach is to fire bomb the world, and those who remain can rebuild in its ashes. “Many would die, I know, but afterwards, flowers would grow.”  That’s what’s most important to him - that the world goes back to how it was and that it can rebuild better with those of ‘his people’ who are left alive.
Solas admitted in Trespasser, Tevinter Nights, and Veilguard that the casualties of his version of Veilfall would be catastrophic. “How many would die? Hundreds? Thousands?” “At least.” He admits to Rook (by his damning silence) that a lot of spirits would die, too. That their deaths would be on his conscience doesn’t absolve him of the truly staggering amount of other people’s lives he’s willing to sacrifice and ‘bear’ to achieve his end.
Just because he’s mournful doesn’t mean he’s right. If his stopping the ritual would “dishonor” those he’s sacrificed, forgiving or justifying his most heinous actions dishonors the corpses he’s willing to step over to get to the end.

it took me a bit to think about, but i think my characters favourite toys would be like:

I am so utterly fascinated by “Saki”, the 18-year-running mahjong manga in which you, the reader, become gradually, frog-boilingly aware (over the course of nearly two decades’ worth of mahjong tournaments) that none of these girls are wearing underwear and most of their boobs are slowly expanding.
I need you to understand that I have, like, an anthropological level fascination with this comic. From the perspective of someone who is also a comic artist and writer, two things delight me about it:
the fact that I understand completely how an artist gets from “the fans can have a little hint of skirted asscheek” to “the pussy is completely out on center page” over the course of 18 years; and
the way in which the pussy being out is treated by the characters and diegesis as being utterly unremarkable.
Okay. Point 1. The frog-boiling.
Let me put this in perspective for you. There was already a meme about how the characters in “Saki” don’t wear underwear when I was in middle school. I am thirty now. Okay? And it’s still going.
In the time since, this has stopped being a joke. It is now indisputable canon. This is not because anyone outright says it at any point. It’s because the underwear ran out of places to hide. I’m obsessed with this thought: somewhere in the over 20 volumes of “Saki”, there is a panel in which underwear was objectively deconfirmed. And it would be so hard to figure out where that panel actually is. Maybe the artist didn’t even realize it when she drew it! The frog? Boiling!!
And of course there is also the breast expansion. I don’t know how to put a spin on this. They are just expanding. Like, this happens a lot with artists: you define a character as being, in your mind, “the one with the big boobs”, and over the years you emphasize that trait further and further so that the signal doesn’t get lost in the noise. It’s just that normally—in like a wildly popular manga series about mahjong published by literally Square Enix, for example—normally there would be a point at which the boobs stopped getting bigger. Like, an editor would step in or something. Or you would get to the point where you cannot draw the character in the same panel as her mahjong tiles without her breasts spilling over the tiles, and you’d go, “Well, this is now untenable.”
That did not happen. There is no ceiling. The frog is soup.
Point 2. The complete and utter mundanity of all of this.
It’s like this, okay: there’s no shortage of trashy ecchi manga out there. There’s a million other comics doing wildly bawdier things with wildly more improbable bishoujos.
The vibe with “Saki” is different.
It’s hard to explain this, but it feels like the world of the comic is fundamentally uninterested in the fanservice happening on the page. I cannot describe it as “leering”, because I cannot conceive of a person in the story from whose point of view one would leer. I think the artist is probably into it—I can’t imagine anyone is making her do this—but “Saki” the comic has no opinion on the matter.
There are essentially no male characters in “Saki”. Like, there was one guy? Kind of? At the very beginning? But he is gone now. They put him back in the toybox. He does not exist. It appears to be some level of canonical that in the world of “Saki”, almost all humans are women. Those women are sometimes romantically into each other. According to comments the artist has made on Twitter (which I cannot source), they have lesbian baby technology, so it’s no problem. It’s so much not a problem that the story is about mahjong, instead of any of that.
So, like, the fiction here appears to be this: this is the, like, meta-narrative of the fanservice of “Saki”, right: it’s just normal that they don’t wear underwear and their boobs are arbitrarily big. It’s been normal. It was normal before the story of the manga began. It’s just how things are. Nobody bats an eye about it, and if they do, it’s in sort of a lesbian kind of way so like what’s the problem, we love lesbians here. This is literally normal for girls.
The fanservice simply diffuses into this all-encompassing aura of disembodied, ambient sluttiness. The framing of the panels demands you acknowledge it, and the story demands you already be over it, because it’s mahjong time now, and we’re playing mahjong.
Do you get??? why I’m so fascinated??? Are you not a little enraptured???
Anyway, I have no idea how to end this weird post. I guess the conclusion is that women stay winning????

What if the characters in Ace Attorney all texted each other. Because they're friends. <3
(My alt text descriptions were a little long so I've added the individual text exchanges below, btw if there's any way I can improve my alt text please let me know!)
[id: drawing one shows text history between Maya Fey and Phoenix Wright on Nick's phone, starting with older texts at the top
Maya: ramen? (Nick has given this a thumbs up)
now we see texts from today at 11:37
Maya: Burgers?
Nick: sorry, not today, big case :(
Maya: Aww Nick
Maya: I'll pick it up and bring it over!
Maya: ... can i use your credit card (she punctuates the sentence with a big smiling face emoji) /end id]
[id: drawing two shows text history between Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth on Miles's phone, starting with older texts at the top
Edgeworth: This was a riveting article, I thought it might interest you.
now we see texts from today
Nick sends a screenshot of a twitter post that reads: Lawyers help people get through the worst day of their life. They're good at it because they have experience getting through their own worst day, which just so happens to be every waking day of their existence
Miles: Ha.
Nick: Just one "ha"?
Miles: Not your best work.
Nick sends a frowny face :( /end id]
[id: drawing three shows text history between Miles Edgeworth and Maya Fey on Maya's phone. The text bubbles from Maya here are green as a result of her, an iPhone user texting Miles, a google pixel user. Maya has also sprinkled several emojis into Miles's contact name, the libra scales, the angry face emoji, the shouting emoji, and the clashing swords emoji. They're mid conversation and Miles has sent a text bubble so big we can't read the whole thing.
Miles: -completely unnecessary. Doing a Steel Samurai reboot so soon after the series ended is a foolish decision, everyone will be directly comparing the two from the moment the first episode drops. I don't believe they even have a fresh direction for the show, the only difference will be the cgi. God forbid we rock the boat and follow a new character! It's abundantly clear to me that the studio executives are cowards.
Maya: Oh my gosh, and did you see the new outfits? Maya includes a sobbing emoji
Miles: Oh, don't get me started.
we see three dots at the bottom of the screen indicating that Miles is still typing. /end id]

White Horse - Chapter 6: August 2023
Pairing: Max Verstappen x Isabelle Leclerc (Original Character)
Summary:
Max Verstappen is a World Champion. Isabelle Leclerc is invisible.
She watched her family give up everything for Charles’ career—Arthur’s karting, their father’s savings, even her childhood horse. She understood. She never asked for more.
But Max does. He notices the things no one else does, listens when no one else will, and puts her first in ways she never imagined. With him, she isn’t an afterthought—she’s a choice. And for the first time, she realizes she doesn’t have to be invisible.
Warnings and Notes:
we have now moved on from Charles bashing to bashing his whole family, Discussions of toxic past relationships, talk about loosing a childhood pet, toxic families...I think that's it?
As always big thanks to @llirawolf , who listens to me ramble
Tumblr media
Meanwhile on Twitter:
@/F1TeaSpiller: Uhhh… when did Victoria Verstappen and Isabelle Leclerc start following each other on Instagram??
↳@/F1Fanatic44: Wait what??? Since when do they even know each other??
↳@/GridGossip: That’s actually wild because I don’t remember them ever interacting before???
↳@/PitLanePrincess: Victoria always comments on her posts too?? Like hype girl mode. Like full-on “omg stunning!!” type comments.
↳@/PaddockSpy: And Isabelle replies!! She called Victoria’s baby “the cutest little thing.”
↳@/TifosiTears: The Leclerc brothers don’t even do that lmao
↳@/PaddockWhispers: How did we miss this??
@/F1TeaSpiller: No because I went deep and Victoria and Isabelle have been commenting on each other’s posts for MONTHS.
↳@/DR3Simp: So either they’ve been secret besties this whole time… or something else is going on.
↳@/LandoLover4: Define “something else.”
↳@/F1Conspiracies: Y’all. Y’ALL.
↳@/F1Conspiracies: What if she’s dating Max.
↳@/RedFlagF1: BE SERIOUS.
↳@/F1Conspiracies: THINK ABOUT IT.
↳@/F1Conspiracies: 1. Isabelle keeps her private life locked down.2. She suddenly has a very close relationship with Victoria Verstappen. 3. MAX ALSO KEEPS HIS PRIVATE LIFE LOCKED DOWN. 4. HES LEARNING TO RIDE FOR HIS GIRLFRIEND AND THE LECLERC’S SOLD ISABELLE’S CHILDHOOD HORSE TO PAY FOR CHARLES’ KARTING.
↳@/TifosiTears: No. No way.
↳@/GridGossip: … But imagine if it’s true. SHE DESIGNED HIS APARTMENT AFTER ALL.
↳@/PitLanePrincess: How do you get from “Max’s girlfriend likes horses and so does Isabelle Leclerc” and Victoria Verstappen following Isabelle Leclerc on Instagram to: “Max and Isabelle will raise the next racing dynasty?!”
@/PaddockWhispers: When did they even meet?? Isabelle isn’t really in the paddock scene like that.
↳@/F1Conspiracies: SHE DESIGNED HIS SIM ROOM. THEY MUST HAVE MET THROUGH THAT.
↳@/LandoFangirl: Be so serious right now.
@/F1TeaSpiller: Okay, I’m officially obsessed with this mystery. Isabelle and Victoria are way too friendly for two people who have zero public connection. Something is UP.
↳@/TifosiFan44: What if they just vibe?? Not everything has to be a conspiracy.
↳@/F1Detective: Okay, let’s be logical for a second. Isabelle and Victoria both grew up around karting. Their families must’ve crossed paths back in the day. Maybe they’ve always known each other and just reconnected??
↳@/TifosiFan44: Yeah, but why reconnect now? Why not years ago?
↳@/PaddockSpy: Maybe they ran into each other recently? Like, at a race or something?
↳@/GridGossip: Or maybe… through someone else. 👀
↳@/F1Conspiracies: SAY HIS NAME.
↳@/RedBullUpdates: DUH DUH DUH MAX VERSTAPPEN
↳@/PaddockWhispers: This is getting out of hand.
↳@/F1Conspiracies: Is it? OR AM I ONTO SOMETHING???
@/F1Conspiracies: If you’re telling me Isabelle and Victoria were secretly friends this whole time, I’m gonna need proof because this is a new development.
↳@/PitLanePrincess: Nah, I just scrolled through their follows. Victoria followed Isabelle first and Isabelle followed back. It happened within the last few months.
↳@/PaddockWhispers: And suddenly, Victoria is in Isabelle’s comments like they’re besties??
@/TifosiFan99: Do you guys think Charles knows his little sister and Victoria are suddenly besties???
↳@/F1Detective: Absolutely not.
↳@/GridGossip: He’s about to find out through Twitter like the rest of us.
↳@/RedBullInsider: Imagine Charles scrolling IG and seeing Victoria hyping up his sister like “That’s my girl! 🥰” and he’s just sitting there like ???
↳@/PaddockSpy: Someone check on Arthur too, because he’s definitely confused.
@/F1Chaos: Isabelle Leclerc and Victoria Verstappen being all over each other’s Instagram is the funniest plot twist of the season. ↳@/PaddockWhispers: If it turns out that Max and Isabelle have been secretly dating and Victoria knew before Charles, I will actually SCREAM.

Leclerc Sibling Group Chat
(Members: Arthur, Isabelle, Charles, and Lorenzo)
Lorenzo: Are we going on a family trip this summer?
Charles: Yeah, Maman was saying she wants to go somewhere all together.
Arthur: Cool. Who’s planning it?
Lorenzo: Isabelle?
Isabelle: …Planning what?
Arthur: The holiday. You know, flights, hotels, stuff to do.
Charles: Yeah, you’re good at that.
Lorenzo: You always find the best places.
Isabelle: Where do we even want to go?
Charles: Somewhere sunny.
Arthur: Beach?
Lorenzo: Good food.
Charles: Okay, Isabelle will sort it.
Isabelle: Right. Sure.
***
Max walked into the living room to find Isabelle surrounded.
Not by clutter—because she didn’t do clutter—but by controlled chaos: her iPad, her laptop, a notebook with neat handwriting, three different browser tabs open on the TV via screen mirroring, and a Google Doc titled Leclerc Family Vacation 2023 (Please Read This One, Arthur).
She didn’t even look up when he walked in. Just tapped something into a spreadsheet with the quiet precision of someone five minutes away from snapping.
“Let me guess,” Max said, dropping onto the couch beside her. “Charles still hasn’t confirmed the villa dates?”
“No,” Isabelle said calmly, “but he did text me a TikTok of a guy falling off a paddleboard. So. Priorities.”
Max raised an eyebrow. “Arthur?”
“Suggested a campsite,” Isabelle muttered. “In Corsica. In August. With no air conditioning.”
Max winced. “Criminal.”
“Then Maman said she was ‘fine with anything,’ which we all know is a trap. And now someone needs to book rooms, coordinate flights, and arrange for something that resembles a plan so we don’t end up yelling at each other on a dock somewhere again.”
Max blinked. “So you’re doing it.”
“I always do it.”
That last part came out too soft, almost like she didn’t mean to say it.
Max leaned back, watching her. Hair up in a clip, sleeves pushed to her elbows, brow furrowed in concentration. This was her armor. Her autopilot. The invisible job of being the quiet one. The dependable one. The one who held everything together while everyone else lived like the world would bend for them.
“Okay,” he said slowly. “So… Leclerc family vacation, next week?”
“Yeah.”
“We’ll go a week later.”
She paused mid-keystroke. “What?”
“Your family’s doing their thing the 6th,” Max said, reaching for her notebook and gently closing it. “So we’ll do ours the 13th. Somewhere quiet. Just us.”
Her lips parted. “You mean… another trip?”
“Yeah.” He stretched his arm over the back of the couch, brushing his fingers through a loose strand of her hair. “One where no one forgets your suitcase. Or sticks you with the worst room. Or makes you plan dinner for eight.”
A beat passed.
Then she asked, automatically, “Want me to look up flights?
Max laughed softly, leaning in. “One: I have a private jet.”
Isabelle blushed. “Right. I forget that sometimes.”
“Two,” he said, voice dropping just a little, “I’m going to plan this one. You don’t have to do anything.”
She stared at him like he’d offered her an alien concept.
Max tucked a finger under her chin, smiling gently. “You don’t always have to carry it all, Belle. Not with me.”
Her throat bobbed. “But I’m—”
“Let me take care of you for once,” he said simply.
And it hit her—the realization that he meant it. That he liked doing this. That she didn’t have to earn it, or apologize for it, or trade it for usefulness.
Just be loved.
Just rest.
Isabelle nodded slowly. “Okay.”

Text Conversation: Isabelle Leclerc & Emilie Abadie
Emilie: Alright, what’s the latest Max Verstappen Is a Perfect Boyfriend update?
Isabelle: …I don’t know if it’s a big deal.
Emilie: Isabelle. It is. Just tell me.
Isabelle: He cuddles me after.
Emilie: …After?
Isabelle: Yeah.
Emilie: Like, after after?
Isabelle: Yes, Emilie.
Emilie: ARE YOU TELLING ME NONE OF YOUR EXES EVER CUDDLED YOU AFTER SEX?!
Isabelle: …I thought that wasn’t really a thing?
Emilie: I—WHAT.
Isabelle: I mean, maybe for some people? But I always got the impression guys weren’t really into that.
Emilie: No. No, no, no. They just weren’t into you.
Isabelle: Gee, thanks.
Emilie: NOT WHAT I MEANT. I MEAN THEY DIDN’T CARE ABOUT YOU.
Isabelle: Oh. Yeah. That sounds more accurate.
Emilie: No one ever held you? Like, at all?
Isabelle: Not really. Sometimes they’d roll over and go on their phones. Or just… leave.
Emilie: …And you were okay with that??
Isabelle: No? But I thought that was just how it was.
Emilie: Isabelle. Oh my god.
Isabelle: But Max just stays. Like, without me asking. He pulls me close, kisses my forehead, plays with my hair, runs his hands up and down my back. Even if we don’t say anything, he just stays.
Emilie: Because he cares about you. Because he actually likes you.
Isabelle: I know.
***
The villa was beautiful.
Of course, it was. Isabelle had picked it.
Neutral-toned interiors, quiet luxury, three terraces, private beach access, and just enough separation between the bedrooms to avoid World War III.
She’d arranged the grocery delivery.
 The airport transfers.
 The private boat rental.
Carefully adjusted seating to avoid drama (Arthur’s girlfriend apparently did not want to sit next to Alexandra ever again)
It was her spreadsheet, her itinerary, her effort.
And yet, as she stood in the kitchen restocking the drinks fridge with sparkling water and wine, she may as well have been part of the cabinetry.
No one noticed.
Or, worse—they noticed and assumed.
Assumed that of course she’d print the vineyard directions, that she’d know which car everyone was in, that she’d restock the sunscreen, make the lunch reservations, mediate the “how many towels is too many towels” fight between Arthur and his girlfriend (spoiler: it was not about the towels).
Her mother hadn’t said thank you. Not once.
No one had.
Not for the itinerary.
 Not for the car rentals.
Not for the fact that she’d packed extra chargers and medicine and picked up Pascale’s favorite jam from that little shop in Nice.
“Isabelle,” Pascale called from outside. “Can you bring out the extra glasses?”
Isabelle bit back a sigh, picked up the tray she had already prepared, and stepped outside with a smile.
The group was gathered around the outdoor table, wine in hand, sun-drenched and happy. Lorenzo was holding court about a minor work drama, Charlotte and Alexandra nodding sympathetically, while Arthur’s girlfriend laughed at something Charles said and Arthur scrolled on his phone.
No one looked up.
No one asked how Isabelle was doing.
No one offered to help.
She set the glasses down, smiled politely, and sat at the empty spot at the end of the table.
“I think we should do the coastal hike tomorrow,” Pascale said, sipping her wine. “Before it gets too hot.”
“I thought we were doing the boat day,” Charles said.
“No, that’s Wednesday,” Isabelle said, gently. “The captain wasn’t available tomorrow.”
Pascale frowned. “Didn’t you book it for Tuesday?”
“I did. Then they called to reschedule. I put it in the itinerary I emailed last week.”
No one responded.
Lorenzo changed the subject. “Charlotte, didn’t you want to go to that vineyard?”
“Oh yes!” Charlotte said. “The one with the stone tasting room.”
“I have it bookmarked,” Isabelle said, scrolling on her phone. “We can go Thursday after lunch.”
Again, silence. Then Arthur said, “Did anyone bring cards?”
Isabelle looked down at her glass, playing with the stem.
This was how it always was.
She planned.
 She coordinated.
 She smoothed everything over.
And they still looked right through her.
No one noticed her skip lunch. Or how she was always the last to sit down. Or how she cleared everyone’s plates without being asked.
When the private chef asked who to talk to about allergies, they directed him to Isabelle. When the AC broke in Charlotte’s and Lorenzo’s room, Isabelle called the concierge. When the car for the beach trip got delayed, Charles tossed her his phone and said, “Can you handle this?”
She did.
She always did.
And yet, when someone poured rosé for the table at dinner that night, no one poured for her.
Not out of malice. Just… absence.
Isabelle sat back, watching her brothers laugh and bicker, their girlfriends leaning into the glow of effortless charm. Her mother, serene and smiling, gently correcting Arthur’s posture and calling Charlotte chérie.
Not once had anyone asked Isabelle how her work was going. How she was doing.
As if she didn’t exist outside the role she played.
The problem was—she was too good at it.
Too good at making things smooth. Too good at stepping out of the way. Too good at fixing things before anyone noticed they were broken.
And now? No one even saw her hands holding the whole thing together.
Not even the people who were supposed to love her most.
She was just so tired.
***
Isabelle had texted him last night.
The usual emojis were missing. Her messages were shorter. And when he’d called her just after dinner, she’d whispered, “I’m fine, it’s just a headache,” in the voice of someone trying not to cry in a bathroom.
Now, standing at the top of the stairs, he watched as a black car rolled to a stop at the edge of the airstrip. The driver stepped out and opened the door—and there she was.
Isabelle.
Shoulders slumped, hair pulled into a hasty bun, sunglasses hiding her eyes. She moved like someone trying not to be perceived. Or maybe like someone who just wanted to stop moving altogether.
She climbed the stairs slowly, and when she reached him, she managed a soft smile.
“Hi.”
Max cupped her face gently. “Hey.”
Her voice was hoarse. “I’m sorry I look like hell.”
He blinked. “You look like my favorite person.”
She laughed, sort of, but it turned into a wince.
Max frowned. “Headache?”
She nodded. “It’s been going since yesterday. Loud house. Strong perfume. Arthur’s playlist.”
Max stepped aside so she could settle into the plush leather seat, already signaling to the crew to dim the lights and lower the cabin temperature. She sank into the chair, curling slightly toward the window.
He knelt beside her, undoing the buckle on her sandals like it was the most natural thing in the world.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered again, like it was some kind of failing.
Max looked up sharply.
“Stop apologizing.”
She blinked behind her sunglasses. “I didn’t mean—”
“You’re in pain,” he said, his voice low, tight with something sharp and protective. “And exhausted. And still trying to be polite about it.”
She didn’t reply.
“You are not a burden,” Max continued, brushing a thumb over her knee. “You’re not too much. And you don’t have to smile through it just to make me comfortable.”
The silence stretched.
Then, quietly: “I am so tired, Max. I planned everything. Every hour, every restaurant, every day. And I don’t think anyone even noticed.”
“I noticed,” he said immediately. “Even from home, I noticed.”
He stood and grabbed a blanket, gently draping it over her before sitting beside her and tugging her legs into his lap.
“Close your eyes,” he murmured. “We’ll be here a while.”
She blinked quickly, looking down at her hands. “It was just a lot.”
“I know,” he said. “I read your texts. I could read between the lines.”
She gave a soft, tired laugh. “That obvious, huh?”
“To me? Always.” He leaned back.“You shouldn’t have to be the glue for everyone else, Belle. Especially not at the cost of your own peace.”
“I’m trying,” she said, her voice barely there. “It’s just hard to stop when no one else steps up.”
“Then let me step up.”
She closed her eyes again. Finally relaxed.
He tucked her closer.
And whispered, “Rest. I’ve got you now.”
She fell asleep between one breath and the next. And didn’t wake. Not during the flight… not during the landing.
Max moved slowly, careful not to wake her, easing one arm beneath her knees and the other around her shoulders. She let out the faintest breath but didn’t stir, her head tipping lightly against his chest.
She weighed next to nothing like this.
The tarmac was still warm beneath his feet as he descended the steps.
Surprisingly, Lando could be trusted with vacation recommendation. The North Island in the Seychelles greeted them with turquoise, crystalline water and beautiful weather.
The villa Max had rented just for them stood nestled between palm trees and the beach, pale stone glowing in the late afternoon light. Secluded. Safe.
It had taken him exactly twenty minutes to book it after he’d read the description. Just: privacy, space, quiet.
A place she could breathe.
He carried her inside, murmured a quiet thank-you to the staff who had pre-stocked the fridge, and walked straight to the bedroom with the softest sheets.
He laid her down gently, brushed a few strands of hair away from her forehead.
Isabelle frowned in her sleep—like even now, she didn’t know how to fully let go.
Max knelt beside the bed and whispered, “It’s okay. You don’t have to be anything right now.”
Then he pulled the blackout curtains closed, set water out on the nightstand for later, and moved through the house like a man on a mission.
No phones. No noise. No expectations.
Just him. Just her.
Just the silence she had earned.
***
Isabelle woke up to the sound of waves.
That was it.
Not alarms.
 Not messages.
Not someone yelling across a hallway or calling her name from the bottom of a staircase.
Just waves. Slow and rhythmic, like a lullaby that had been playing long before she arrived and would keep going long after she left.
The room was warm with sunlight. Pale curtains fluttered lazily in the breeze, and the air smelled like salt and sun-warmed wood. She lay still for a long time, blinking up at the thatched ceiling, half-draped in linen sheets and Max’s hoodie from the night before.
For a few seconds, she didn’t remember where she was.
Then it hit her all at once: the flight, Max, peace.
And the fact that, for the first time in months, there was nothing to do.
No family group chat spiraling into chaos.
Nothing.
Just this.
Isabelle sat up slowly, stretching, and looked out through the open doors to the private beach just steps away. White sand. Blue water. Palm trees swaying like they were dancing to music only they could hear.
And Max.
Already outside, barefoot in board shorts,  sunglasses perched on his head, sprawled in a lounge chair like he owned the concept of leisure. He looked up the second she moved, and smiled.
Like she was the only thing worth seeing.
She stepped outside, bare feet hitting sun-warmed wood, and he lifted his arm without a word. She curled into his side, her cheek against his shoulder, and he kissed the top of her head.
“Morning,” he murmured.
“It’s late.”
“Who cares?”
She shifted closer.
One hand moved slowly up and down her back. Not to fix her. Just to say I’m here.
She felt him breathe. Felt her own breathing start to match his.
Felt… safe.
Like she could finally put all of it down. The smiling. The pretending. The quiet, invisible labor of being the one who always held it together.
“You don’t have to say anything,” Max murmured, kissing her hair. “Not today.”
She didn’t.
Didn’t need to.
Because this—his arms around her, the hush of the ocean, the stillness he made just for her—this was enough.
She closed her eyes.
And for the first time in weeks, Isabelle Leclerc let herself fully rest.

Text Conversation: Isabelle Leclerc & Emilie Abadie
Isabelle: Emilie.
Emilie: Uh oh. What did Max do?
Isabelle: Nothing?? That’s the thing???
Emilie: …I need more context.
Isabelle: We’re on vacation.
Emilie: Yes, I am painfully aware that you’re somewhere warm and beautiful with your perfect boyfriend while I’m stuck here. Continue.
Isabelle: I haven’t had to plan anything. Not a single thing.
Emilie: …And?
Isabelle: No scheduling. No coordinating. No last-minute scrambling.
Isabelle: Do you understand how weird that is for me???
Emilie: Isabelle. That is literally how vacations are supposed to work.
Isabelle: I know??? But I’m just so used to handling everything.
Isabelle: And Max just… took care of it. Flights, hotel, reservations. Everything.
Emilie: And you’re struggling because…?
Isabelle: Because I keep waiting for something to go wrong and for someone to expect me to fix it. But nothing has gone wrong.
Emilie: That’s because Max is a fully functional adult. Unlike, you know. Your brothers.
Isabelle: …Huh.
Emilie: What.
Isabelle: Nothing. Just. Huh.
Emilie: That’s the sound of your brain rebooting because someone is actually taking care of you for once.
Isabelle: Maybe.
Emilie: Definitely. Now go enjoy your stress-free vacation. You deserve it.
Isabelle: …This is so weird.
Emilie: You’ll get used to it.

The difference was almost laughable.
The second morning, she woke up slowly, stretching under the soft sheets, and realized something was missing. She wasn’t exhausted. She wasn’t checking her phone to make sure everything was running on schedule.
She just was.
Max, lying beside her, traced lazy circles on her arm and murmured, “You okay?”
She turned her head to look at him, her face half-buried in the pillow. “This is weird.”
His lips twitched. “What is?”
“Not having to do anything.”
Max let out a soft laugh, pressing a kiss to her shoulder. “Yeah, that’s kind of the point, Schatje.”
She didn’t quite know how to put it into words—that she wasn’t used to this, to someone making sure she was taken care of. That she had spent her whole life organizing and managing and making sure everyone else was comfortable, and now, for the first time, she was the one being looked after.
And Max wasn’t making a big deal out of it. He wasn’t acting like it was some grand gesture. He just did it, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Like she was worth the effort.
By the third day, Isabelle wasn’t sure whether to be impressed or completely unnerved by how easily Max took over.
They had spent the morning by the beach, and when she’d started to gather their towels and check if they needed to book dinner somewhere, Max had just taken the towels from her hands and said, “I already made a reservation.”
At her look of disbelief, he had only smirked. “You think I don’t know how to plan things?”
“It’s not that,” she said, stretching out on the lounge chair. “I just… I’m usually the one who does this kind of thing.”
Max hummed, pushing his sunglasses up. “Maybe that’s the problem.”
She blinked. “What?”
“You always do everything.” His tone was light, but his gaze was sharp behind the tinted lenses. “For your family. For work. You take care of everyone. But who takes care of you?”
The question caught her off guard.
She opened her mouth, then closed it. She wanted to say nobody needs to, but the truth was, no one ever really had.
And then Max, like he could hear the wheels turning in her head, just reached over and brushed his fingers against hers.
“You’re allowed to let someone else handle things,” he murmured. “You don’t have to do everything alone.”
She swallowed, staring at their hands. His fingers were warm, steady.
“It’s just how it’s always been,” she admitted softly.
“I know,” Max said, lacing their fingers together. “But it doesn’t have to be.”
She didn’t answer, but when they went back to the villa, she didn’t ask where they were having dinner. She didn’t double-check the reservation or worry about what time they needed to leave.
Instead, she let Max take her hand and lead her out the door, into the night, into something she wasn’t quite used to but thought—just maybe—she could get used to.
Dinner was at a small, candlelit restaurant overlooking the ocean. Isabelle didn’t recognize the name, but the staff greeted Max like an old friend when they arrived.
“You’ve been here before?” she asked as they were led to their table.
Max pulled out her chair before sitting down himself. “I got a recommendation from a friend.” He shrugged. “I like places that are quiet.”
She understood what he meant the moment they sat down. The restaurant was intimate, with soft music playing in the background, the ocean breeze drifting through open windows. It was nothing like the places her family always picked—grand, extravagant, and often exhausting.
“You know,” she said after the waiter poured their wine. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a vacation like this before.”
Max raised a brow. “Like what?”
She gestured vaguely. “Where I didn’t have to plan everything. Where I didn’t feel like I had to keep everything together.”
Max studied her for a long moment, then set his glass down. “You shouldn’t have to feel like that at all.”
She looked away, suddenly uncomfortable. “It’s just how it is.”
“But it shouldn’t be,” he countered. “That’s my point.”
Isabelle exhaled, shaking her head. “Max—”
“No, listen.” He leaned forward, resting his arms on the table. “You spent weeks making sure your mother’s birthday was perfect. You handle everything for your family, and they don’t even realize it. When was the last time someone did something like that for you?”
She stayed quiet.
“That’s what I mean,” Max said. “You do so much for everyone, but no one ever makes sure you’re okay.”
She wanted to argue, to say that wasn’t true, but the words wouldn’t come. Because he wasn’t wrong.
Max sighed, sitting back. “I just don’t want you to think you always have to be the responsible one. That you always have to be the one making sacrifices.”
“I don’t mind,” she murmured.
“You shouldn’t have to,” he said simply.
She twisted her wine glass between her fingers. It was strange, this feeling of being cared for so deliberately. Like Max had been quietly watching, noticing the cracks no one else had.
And then he smiled, easy and warm. “But for now, you don’t have to think about any of that.” He lifted his glass toward her. “This week, I handle everything.”
She hesitated, then clinked her glass against his.
It was just a week.
But for once, maybe that was enough.

Emilie: What, relaxation? Peace? Being taken care of??
Isabelle: Yes??
Emilie: Isabelle, I swear to God—
Isabelle: We went on a hike today. I just… followed Max. That’s it. No figuring out where to go, no checking maps, no making sure there was water or sunscreen or food.

The light was warm and low, spilling through the palm trees and painting the terrace in soft amber.
Isabelle sat with her knees pulled up on the oversized lounger, still in her swimsuit and one of Max’s linen shirts, damp curls tucked behind her ears. Her sketchbook was open on her lap, untouched, pencil resting against the paper. She hadn’t drawn a single thing in an hour.
She was too content to move.
Max sat beside her, one leg stretched out, the other bent at the knee, sipping from a glass of something cold and citrusy. The sea whispered in the background. He hadn’t looked at his phone in hours.
They were quiet.
It wasn’t silence that needed to be filled. It was just safe.
She turned her head and found him watching her.
“What?” she asked softly.
Max tilted his head. “You know what would be nice?”
“Tell me.”
“If you met my family before Zandvoort.”
The question landed so gently she almost didn’t realize it was a question. It was just Max—calm, steady, offering something important like it wasn’t a big deal. Like he hadn’t just opened a door and waited for her to walk through it.
Isabelle blinked. “Before Zandvoort?”
He nodded. “Just a quiet dinner. In Belgium maybe, or Monaco, whatever’s easier. My dad. Mum. Victoria. Tom. Their kids. No pressure.”
Isabelle looked down at her sketchbook. Her heart fluttered.
Meeting Max’s family wasn’t something she’d let herself think about—not seriously. Because what they had felt big sometimes, and big things had a habit of slipping away if she looked at them too hard.
But Max?
Max never made her feel like she had to earn her place.
She looked back up, searching his face. “Are you sure?”
Max smiled like it was the easiest thing in the world. “They’ll love you.”
She chewed on the inside of her cheek. “And… if they don’t?”
“They will,” he said, without hesitation. “But if they didn’t—which they will—I still would. That’s what matters.”
Her throat went tight.
“You don’t have to say yes now,” he added, quieter now, reaching for her hand. “But I want you there. I want them to know you like I do.”
She leaned in and kissed his shoulder, then tucked herself under his arm.
“I want that too,” she whispered. “Okay. Before Zandvoort.”
He squeezed her hand.
And for a while, they just sat there as the sun dipped into the ocean, a promise tucked between them like something sacred.

Charles: Zandvoort’s coming up. Arthur, you good with logistics?
Arthur: Yep. I’m flying in Tuesday morning.
Isabelle: Hey— I’m actually in the Netherlands that week for a work event. Rotterdam. I was thinking… if you two are okay with it, I could come to Zandvoort for the weekend? I’d love to watch you both race.
Arthur: Yeah, totally. That’d be nice.
Charles: Definitely, yeah. It would be nice to have you there.
Arthur: We’ll have Ferrari add you to the room block, right, Charles?
Charles: Yeah, yeah. Easy. I’ll let the team know you’re joining.
Isabelle: Okay! I’ll come down Friday morning after my meetings wrap up. Can’t wait to see you both.
Arthur: Bring those granola bars you had at Silverstone.
Charles: Bring some for me too.

Isabelle: He wants me to meet his family before Zandvoort.
Isabelle:  His entire family.
Isabelle:  Dinner. At his mother's house. No pressure apparently.
Emilie: Max Verstappen just casually inviting you into the lion’s den. Classic.
Emilie:  Are you freaking out?
Isabelle:  I am in a controlled state of panic.
Emilie: You do realize you’re literally the perfect daughter-in-law, right?
Emilie: You’re quiet, polite, absurdly thoughtful, and stunning in a soft-lighting European cinema kind of way.
Isabelle: I am really not.
Emilie: You listen. You make people feel calm just by existing.
Emilie:  His family will LOVE you.
Emilie:  And if they don’t, that’s not a reflection of you.
Emilie:  It’s a red flag, and I’ll show up swinging.
Isabelle: He was so casual about it.  “They’ll love you,” he said. Just like that. No hesitation.
Emilie: Because he knows they will. Max isn’t casual about anything he doesn’t absolutely mean.
Isabelle: What if I forget how to talk? Or what if Victoria is terrifying?
Emilie: You talk when you have something worth saying.  And Victoria? She’ll adore you. You’re going to be her sons' new favorite person within five minutes. Probably less.
Emilie: You don’t have to prove anything, Belle.  You just have to show up. The rest takes care of itself.  You’re already his family. The rest is just the intro.
Isabelle: I love you.
Emilie: I know.  Be polite and devastatingly charming at dinner.
***
Isabelle had been in high-pressure situations before.
Final exams, high-stakes client presentations, being the only woman in a room full of men twice her age who thought she was just there to take notes—none of those compared to standing in the Verstappen family home, about to meet Max’s family for the first time.
Max had assured her it would be fine. He’d been so casual about it, telling her “They’ll love you,” like it was a certainty. But then again, he already loved her, and he’d made that seem inevitable, too.
The door opened before she could finish that thought, and suddenly, she was being yanked inside by an overenthusiastic blonde.
"Finally!" Victoria Verstappen declared, looping an arm around Isabelle’s before she even had a chance to say hello. "I was beginning to think you were a myth."
Max rolled his eyes, following them inside. "I literally told you about her months ago. You have talked to her."
"And yet, this is the first time I’m meeting her," Victoria shot back before turning to Isabelle with a knowing grin. "Ignore him. I already love you, by the way."
"That’s… good," Isabelle said, slightly breathless from the whirlwind welcome. "I’d hate to be off to a bad start."
"Not possible," Victoria declared before releasing her and giving Max a pointed look. "You never bring anyone home. I don’t care who she is. She could be an alien, and I’d still be thrilled."
Max sighed. "She’s not an alien."
"Shame," Victoria said with a dramatic sigh before linking their arms again. "Come on. Mum is dying to meet you."
They were halfway through the house before Isabelle even had a chance to look around properly. It was warm and inviting—the kind of place where people laughed loudly at the dinner table and where childhood photos still hung on the walls.
She barely had time to take in the framed pictures before she was pulled into a hug by a woman who could only be Sophie Kumpen.
"Isabelle," she said warmly, squeezing her hands when she pulled back. "It’s so lovely to finally meet you."
"You too," Isabelle said sincerely.
"Max has told me so much about you," Sophie continued, giving her son a pointed look. "I was beginning to think he’d made you up."
Victoria cackled. "That’s what I said!"
Max groaned. "Why does everyone think I’m lying?"
Before anyone could answer, another voice cut through the conversation.
"You’re Charles’ sister."
The room shifted slightly as all attention turned to Jos Verstappen.
Max tensed beside her, and Victoria, who had been all smiles just moments ago, pressed her lips together in something that looked suspiciously like exasperation.
But Isabelle didn’t waver. She turned to look at him and nodded. "Yes."
Jos hummed, gaze sharp. Then silence.
It stretched long enough that Max was clearly about to intervene, but before he could, Sophie clapped her hands together, cutting through the tension like it was nothing.
"Let’s sit," she said, smiling as if Jos hadn’t just been scrutinizing Isabelle like she was an opponent on track. "I made tea."
The conversation moved on, shifting to lighter topics—Victoria’s kids, Sophie’s recent travels, Max’s upcoming races. But Isabelle could still feel Jos’ gaze on her, quietly assessing.
Max never let go of her hand.
It wasn’t until much later, after dinner, after Victoria’s sons had climbed all over Isabelle and decided that she was their new favourite person, when the conversation had lulled and Isabelle was helping Sophie clear the table, that Jos spoke to her again.
"You’re an architect?"
She turned, nodding. "Yes."
"That takes discipline."
"It does."
He studied her for a long moment. Then— "Max needs someone like that."
It wasn’t outright approval. It wasn’t exactly warm.
But it was something.
And when Max returned, slinging an arm around her shoulders like he had no intention of letting her go, Isabelle decided it was enough.

The lobby was nice in that neutral, five-star motorsport weekend kind of way. Polished stone floors, a curated floral arrangement on the front desk, one of those confusing water features that seemed to exist purely for aesthetic drama.
Isabelle smiled at the receptionist with practiced ease, suitcase in hand, lanyard tucked into her coat pocket.
She was exhausted, having run herself ragged over the last few days with a client install in Rotterdam. She had managed to wrap that up, just in time to catch the train towards Zandvoort with only a small amount of cursing.
“Hi, I should have a room with the Ferrari team block? Leclerc?”
The receptionist tapped quickly on the keyboard. Pause. Frown. Tap again.
Isabelle kept smiling. She knew this look.
“I’m so sorry,” the woman said kindly. “I don’t see a reservation under your name.”
“Oh,” Isabelle replied, blinking once. “Could you check again? Maybe under Charles or Arthur?”
More typing. The woman’s brows drew together. “They both have rooms, but… there’s nothing additional listed. I don’t see a third Leclerc on the team list. And all our rooms are booked for tonight.”
Isabelle nodded, her face still polite. “Right. No worries.”
Because what else could she say?
Because of course, they’d forgotten.
It wasn’t even anger that hit her. Just a quiet, familiar ache, the kind that wrapped itself around her ribs and pressed in slowly.
She stepped away from the counter, wheeling her suitcase off to the side. The hotel lobby was buzzing—PR people, Ferrari junior drivers, Red Bull interns in matching polos. People who had rooms. People who had plans.
She pulled out her phone and opened a message thread she knew she could trust.
To: Max
Apparently I do not exist to the Ferrari logistics team. I promise I’m not trying to be dramatic. I just… don’t really know what to do right now.
The three dots popped up immediately.
Max: Room 706.
Isabelle: Max, I don’t want to cause a scene.
Max: You’re not. You’re coming upstairs. You’re not spending the night in the lobby because your brothers forgot you.
Isabelle: You’re busy. I don’t want to be in the way.
Max: You’re not in the way. You’re mine. Room 706. Come up. The door is open. You’ve got a place with me. Always.
She stared at the message for a moment, biting her lip.
No one had ever said it like that. Not her family. Not even past relationships. Like she wasn’t something to accommodate but someone who belonged.
Then, gathering her bag, she stood and waited by the elevators, wondering how something as painful as being forgotten could still land her exactly where she was supposed to be.

Gianpiero Lambiase had seen Max Verstappen through just about everything.
From raw, sharp-edged teenager to relentless world champion. From radio meltdowns to perfect laps in impossible conditions. From reckless frustration to the rare, still moments where he let his guard down—just enough to be human.
But over the past five months, GP had noticed him changing once again.
It wasn’t dramatic. Max hadn’t started writing poetry or singing love songs. There were no fireworks, no sweeping declarations.
It was quieter than that.
He smiled more.
Texted back.
Stopped snapping at the comms team over small things.
Started asking if someone else needed anything before the garage debrief ended.
And then there were the little tells. Subtle changes GP clocked because he always clocked them.
The way Max would glance at his phone with a barely-there smile. The occasional “oh, she’d like this” muttered at a merch stand or a snack table.
She.
GP hadn’t needed to ask who.
Because he had known since Max started asking him for relationship advice. Because clearly, GP was a fountain of romantic wisdom because GP had somehow managed to persuade his wife to take pity of him and marry him.
GP had observed.
Had allowed his eyes to track Isabelle Leclerc whenever she happened to show up at a race.  He’d seen her in the background. Quiet. Observing. Never trying to claim space that wasn’t offered.
Isabelle Leclerc.
The girl with the soft voice and sharper eyes.
She wasn’t flashy. Wasn’t chasing the spotlight.
Which was probably why Max was so hopelessly gone for her.
So when Max looked at his phone mid-dinner and smiled—really smiled—GP didn’t need to ask who it was.
He just sighed.
And then he watched how Max’s whole body language changed in an instance, swallowing the bite of food he had just taken, his jaw clenching, tapping on his phone with barely contained rage.
GP raised an eyebrow. “Emergency?”
Max stood and muttered, “Kind of,” before grabbing his room key and disappearing into the hallway without another word.
GP blinked. “...What?”
He took a bite of luke warm pasta, leaned back, and waited. Max was many things—brilliant, intense, chronically infuriating—but he wasn’t cryptic without reason.
And GP hated when Max was cryptic.
The door opened again.
And Max walked in with Isabelle Leclerc.
GP blinked.
For a split second, he thought he was hallucinating. Maybe something in the hotel pasta had finally triggered a stress-induced fever dream.
But no. There she was. Real, flushed with embarrassment, wearing a coat and carrying a travel bag, clearly trying to disappear into the carpet.
Max, looking infuriatingly casual: “GP, this is Isabelle.”
As if GP didn’t know exactly who she was.
Leclerc.
 As in Charles Leclerc’s sister.
As in "Ferrari’s Golden Boy Is Going To Break The FIA When He Finds Out You’re Sleeping With His Sister" Leclerc.
GP set down his fork. Slowly. Carefully.
“Hi,” she said softly. “Sorry. This isn’t how I pictured meeting you.”
GP blinked.
“She didn’t have a hotel room,” Max added, like that explained everything.
“So you invited her to your room,” GP said flatly.
Isabelle turned even pinker. “I didn’t know he wasn’t alone.”
GP stared at Max, then at her, then back at Max, who had the gall to sip his water like they weren’t seconds away from becoming a tabloid headline.
“In the Netherlands,” GP clarified.
“Yes,” Max said.
“During your home Grand Prix.”
“Yes.”
GP took a long, slow breath. “Perfectly reasonable.”
Max didn’t even blink.
Isabelle, bless her, looked like she wanted to apologize for existing. “I can go…”
GP waved her off. “No, no, please. You’re already more pleasant than he is.”
Max threw a piece of bread at him.
GP caught it midair without looking.
Then he sighed.
“What do you mean she didn’t have a room?” he asked Max with a raised eyebrow.
“She thought her brothers had booked her one,” Max said, like he wasn’t holding back fury with every word. “They didn’t.”
GP’s fork hit the table. “You’re kidding.”
“Nope.”
GP turned to Isabelle, who was doing her best to shrink into her jacket. “They left you without a room?”
“I think they forgot I was coming,” she said, voice light, like it didn’t sting. Like it didn’t matter. “It’s okay. I just didn’t want to make a fuss tonight.”
Max’s jaw clenched.
And GP—who had been mad at Max for a million things over the years—suddenly wanted to march down the hall and yell at two grown men for treating their sister like a misplaced backpack.
“You’re staying here tonight,” Max said firmly. “End of discussion.”
GP crossed his arms. “I mean—yes. Obviously. But still. You’re telling me neither of them noticed?”
Isabelle looked away. “I guess not.”
Max let out a low, sharp breath through his nose.
It wasn’t just annoyance. It was rage. But the quiet kind. The kind Max only reserved for people who hurt the very small handful of people he actually loved.
Max rubbed a hand over his face and stood. Walked across the room. Paced, like he had no idea what to do with the fury crawling under his skin.
“She’s staying here,” he said again, turning to GP.
“Obviously.”
GP looked at Isabelle more gently now. “For what it’s worth, they’re idiots.”
Isabelle smiled faintly. “I’m kind of used to it.”
Max stopped pacing and came to stand beside her. He didn’t touch her—not yet—but the tension in his jaw said everything.
He was furious. Not just on her behalf, but because deep down, he’d known this would happen. And he hadn’t been there in time to stop it.
“You deserve better,” Max said quietly, only for her.
GP cleared his throat. “Okay. Well. I’m going to leave you two alone before I throw something.”
Isabelle blinked. “Wait—you’re mad?”
“Oh, I’m mad,” GP muttered. “Just not at you.”
He grabbed his notes, paused in the doorway, and said to Max: “I want you in bed in the next thirty minutes.”
Max smirked.
GP pointed at him. “Don’t.”
Then he looked at Isabelle again. Really looked.
And in that second, watching the way Max’s entire body shifted around her—the protectiveness, the softness, the calm—GP felt the sharp edge of his frustration melt into something else.
Respect.
“You’re good for him,” he said simply.
Isabelle’s eyes widened a little. “Thank you.”
“And Max?” GP said one last time. “If they forget her again—I will. Personally. Book. Her. A. Room.”
Max nodded solemnly. “Noted.”
GP closed the door behind him.
And in the hallway, alone, he muttered:
“Goddamn Leclerc brothers. Idiots, the lot of them.”
Then: “...But at least Max got something right.”
***
The door clicked shut behind GP, and the room fell into a thick, heavy silence.
Isabelle was still standing near the foot of the bed, fingers fidgeting with the hem of her sleeve. She looked small. Not fragile—but like someone who’d been holding herself upright for hours longer than she should’ve.
Max crossed the room and gently took the travel bag from her shoulder.
“You can relax now,” he said quietly.
She gave him a weak smile. “I didn’t mean to crash dinner.”
“You didn’t,” he replied. “We were already nearly done.”
He set her bag down carefully by the armchair and turned back to her, studying her face. She looked pale beneath the overhead lights, cheeks still flushed from the hallway chill. Her eyes had the telltale glassiness of someone who was trying very hard not to cry out of sheer exhaustion.
“Have you eaten?” he asked.
She blinked. “I—what?”
“When was the last time you ate?”
She blinked. “Um… this morning?”
“This morning,” he repeated, and it came out sharper than he meant it to.
She winced. “I didn’t have time, Max. It’s not a big deal.”
He turned and stalked toward the room service menu like he needed somewhere to put the anger. Not at her. Never at her.
But her brothers?
They had let her show up to Zandvoort and forgotten to book her a room.
And now here she was—exhausted, underfed, and still trying to act like it wasn’t a big deal.
Like being forgotten was normal.
He pulled the phone off the receiver and ordered something warm. Soup. Bread. Tea.
She hovered by the edge of the bed, arms wrapped around herself.
“Don’t make a whole thing out of this,” she said, voice small.
He looked at her. “Making sure you had a place to sleep? A meal? That’s not a whole thing, that’s the bare minimum.”
“I know, I know.” She pressed the heels of her hands to her eyes. “I just—I didn’t want to make a fuss. Charles was already stressed about media stuff and Arthur was busy with something…”
“And they forgot about you,” Max said flatly. “Again.”
“Max.”
“I’m not going to yell at them,” he said, trying to tamp down the fire crawling up his throat. “But don’t ask me to pretend it’s okay. It’s not.”
She sank onto the edge of the bed, hands curled in her lap. “If I get upset, they make me feel like I’m overreacting. If I don’t say anything, I get forgotten. It’s like—I’m either too much or invisible.”
Max crossed the room, crouched in front of her. Rested his hands on her knees, grounding.
“You are not too much,” he said. “And you are never invisible. Not to me.”
She blinked hard, closing her eyes, pressing the heels of her hands against them. He just looked at her, at the shaky way she exhaled.
There was a knock at the door. Room service.
She tried to stand up, but he squeezed her hand.
“I’ll get it,” he said. “You just… sit. Please.”
He brought the tray over himself—soup, warm rolls, tea already steeping in the pot—and set it on the table in front of the window. Isabelle sat cross-legged on the bed, watching him like he might vanish if she blinked too hard.
“Eat first,” he said softly.
She hesitated for a moment—then nodded and reached for the spoon.
Halfway through the meal, she finally looked a little more like herself. Less pale. Less folded in on herself. Her shoulders relaxed. She leaned into his side, one hand resting on his knee, like she needed to stay grounded.
“Thank you,” she murmured.
He kissed the top of her head.
“You’re mine,” he said, like it was the simplest truth in the world.
She didn’t say anything back. But she reached for his hand under the table, tangled their fingers, and held on tight.
And that was enough.

Text Conversation: Isabelle Leclerc & Max Verstappen
Isabelle: My brothers left for the track without me.
Isabelle: They literally forgot I was even staying in the same hotel.
Isabelle: I came downstairs and the receptionist said, “Your family already left.” Like I was late for a school trip.
Isabelle: I know you’re busy, I just… needed to tell someone before I screamed into a decorative pillow.
Max: Are you serious?
Max: Stay right there. I’m sending someone now. You’re not taking a taxi like some fan on a giveaway pass.
Isabelle: Max, it’s fine—
Max: No, it’s not.
Isabelle: You don’t have to fix everything.
Max: I want to fix this.
Max: Stay where you are.
***
Text Conversation: Max Verstappen & Daniel Ricciardo
Max: Are you still at the hotel?
Daniel: Yeah, just finishing my coffee. Why?
Max: Can you give someone a ride to the track?
Daniel: Yeah, no worries. Who?
Max: Isabelle Leclerc. Her brothers left without her.
Daniel: Wait. Charles’ Isabelle?
Max: Yeah.
Daniel: Why is she not with them?
Max: They forgot her.
Daniel: …Brutal.  Alright, I’ll head down and grab her.
Max: Thanks. Be nice.
Daniel: When am I not nice?
Max: Don’t answer that.
Daniel: So… why are you arranging this?
Daniel: Since when are you a Leclerc family concierge?
Max: Since right now. Go get her.
Daniel: Alright alright, I’m going.
Daniel: You’re weirdly invested in this.
***
Daniel Ricciardo had done a lot of weird favors in his life—once helped a teammate move house using a go-kart trailer, once lied to a customs officer about being allergic to oranges just to dodge a fruit declaration—but picking up Isabelle Leclerc from the hotel lobby because her own brothers had forgotten her? This one was top tier.
He didn’t know Isabelle well—he’d met her a handful of times, mostly quiet paddock hellos and awkward “Charles’ little sister” nods—but he was 100% sure she didn’t deserve to be ditched like a stray sock in a hotel lobby.
Who does that to their sister?
He had a sister. If someone had left Michelle behind at a race weekend? He’d have thrown hands. The thought of Isabelle, standing in some quiet hotel lobby while her brothers sped off to the circuit like she was an afterthought—it made his blood simmer.
He spotted her right away: sunglasses on, hair in a braid, sitting quietly in one of those fancy lobby chairs that always looked too stiff to be comfortable. She stood when she saw him, smoothing her skirt and lifting a tote bag onto her shoulder with calm, effortless grace.
“Hey,” he said, waving. “Max sent me.”
“I figured,” she said with a small smile. “Thanks for doing this. I really appreciate it.”
“No problem.” He gestured toward the car. “Although I’ve gotta say, you being stranded wasn’t on my bingo card for today.”
She let out a soft laugh as they walked. “It wasn’t on mine either.”
“I mean—how do they forget you?” he asked, a little incredulous now. “You’re their sister. This isn’t like forgetting your phone charger.”
“They’re… busy,” Isabelle said diplomatically, as if that explained everything. Her voice was soft, her expression sincere, and it made something tug in his chest. She wasn’t mad. She wasn’t throwing a fit. She wasn’t calling her brothers to scream at them.
She was just… taking it.
And that, somehow, made it worse.
“Seriously,” he said as they headed to the car, “they just left without you?”
“They’re not very detail-oriented,” she said with a light shrug, like she was used to making excuses for them.
Daniel frowned. “They’re your brothers, not a logistics team.”
She just smiled a little. “It’s fine.”
But it wasn’t.
He opened the door for her and tried not to seethe the entire way to the circuit.
The silence in the car was comfortable, oddly enough. Isabelle looked out the window, the sunlight catching in her hair. She smelled like something soft and green and expensive—not perfume-y, just... nice. Warm.
“So,” he said after a moment, “you and Max talk much?”
She tilted her head slightly. “Sometimes.”
He narrowed his eyes. “He didn’t explain anything when he asked me to pick you up.”
“I’m not surprised.”
“He just said you needed a ride, and that I was supposed to be nice.”
She smiled to herself. “That sounds like him.”
Daniel watched her for a beat longer. There was something easy in how she spoke about Max. Something familiar. Something… personal.
Suspicious.
He knew that tone. It was the same one Michelle used when she pretended she wasn’t dating her coworker. The same one his friends used when they were trying not to spill the beans too early.
Then, the kicker: her phone buzzed.
She glanced at it, read the screen, and her entire expression softened—smile tugging at the corner of her mouth in a way that made her glow.
Daniel caught a glimpse of the contact name.
Max. With a little heart emoji.
And that was it.
The lightbulb went on.
“You’re with Max,” he blurted out.
Isabelle blinked. “Sorry?”
“You’re dating him.”
She blinked again, clearly debating denial… then gave up with a sigh and a smile. “Please don’t tell Charles.”
He gasped. “Charles doesn’t know.”
“Daniel…”
“I can’t unknow this now, Isabelle! This is, like, Top Secret Gossip of the Year! You can’t just hand me this emotional grenade and expect me not to panic!”
She laughed then—soft and real—and Daniel blinked. She looked… happy. Actually, genuinely happy.
He slowed down a little. “So… you’re good? With him?”
She nodded. “Better than I ever thought I could be.”
Daniel let out a long breath and shook his head. “Okay. Fine. I’ll take it to the grave. But when Charles finds out, I’m not in the room. I’m not even in the country.”
***
The paddock was buzzing, media wrapping up, and Max had just emerged from debrief when Daniel cornered him like a man on a mission.
“Hey,” Daniel said, arms crossed. “We need to talk.”
Max raised an eyebrow, completely unsurprised. “About?”
“You know what about,” Daniel said. “Don’t play dumb.”
Max took a sip of his Red Bull, deadpan. “You found out.”
“I picked her up from the hotel,” Daniel snapped. “I drove her. I talked to her for fifteen minutes. She’s warm, she’s kind, she listens—Max, she’s human sunshine.”
Max smirked, because yeah. Isabelle kind of was.
“Also? Her brothers left her behind this morning. They forgot her. Like she was a damn charger cable.”
Max exhaled through his nose. “They also forgot to book her a room,” Max said, voice going tight.
“…What?”
“Last night,” Max said. “She got to the hotel and found out Charles and Arthur hadn’t added her to the Ferrari room block. She had nowhere to sleep.”
Daniel stared at him. “So what did she do?”
“She texted me.”
“You’re telling me she didn’t even call them? She just quietly… what, curled up in a hallway with a travel bag and a dream?”
Max ran a hand through his hair. “I told her to come upstairs. She’s staying with me.”
Daniel muttered something that vaguely sounded like a threat.
“I mean—look, Max, I’ve seen people be casually inconsiderate before. But this? This is Olympic-level. This is gold medal negligence.”
“She wasn’t even mad,” Max said, and the quiet in his voice was far more telling than any shout. “She just said she didn’t want to make a fuss.”
Daniel’s shoulders dropped.
“Jesus.”
They stood in silence for a moment, the weight of it hanging between them. Max leaned against the wall, arms crossed, jaw set.
“I hate that she’s used to it,” he said finally. “The way she just… accepts it. Like being overlooked is normal.”
Daniel looked at him, something softer settling into his expression. “And you’re not gonna let that happen anymore.”
Max shook his head. “Not from me.”
Daniel nodded slowly. “Good. But I am still wondering, how the hell did you end up with Isabelle Leclerc? I watched you ghost half of Europe. I watched you emotionally flatline your way through every relationship like you were waiting for a fire drill. And now you’re with her?”
Max looked up, expression shifting from amused to something quieter. Something real. “Yeah. I am.”
Daniel paused. “You’re serious about her.” It wasn’t a question.
Max’s expression shifted—still calm, but quieter now. More grounded. “Yeah. I am.”
Daniel sighed, shaking his head with a grin. “You really are in deep, huh?”
Max nodded. “Very.”
There was a beat of silence.
Daniel exhaled, some of the theatrics melting away. “Okay. Okay. That’s good. Because she’s too good for you.”
Max chuckled. “I know.”
“No, like, really too good. You forget her birthday? I’ll kill you. You mess up and she cries? I will haunt you.”
Max sobered slightly. “I’m not going to hurt her.”
“I know,” Daniel said. “But I had to say it. It’s the law. Shovel talk protocol.” Daniel pointed at him again, this time less dramatic, more protective. “She’s quiet. She’s kind. She doesn’t push. That kind of girl? People forget to treat her like she matters. You don’t get to be one of them.”
“I know,” Max said instantly.
“I’m serious. You hurt her? You even accidentally make her feel like she’s less than everything? I will become your personal nightmare.”
Max nodded slowly. “Fair.”
Daniel exhaled. “Okay. Good.”
Another pause.
Then: “Also, bro. You’re screwed when Charles finds out.”
Max cracked a faint smile. “You think I don’t know that?”
“I’m just saying,” Daniel said, standing up, “I’d start investing in body armor. And maybe bribe Fred Vasseur.”
“I already told Victoria and Sophie,” Max said. “Jos knows too.”
Daniel turned mid-step. “So everyone in your family knows, and no one in hers?”
Max just raised his hands helplessly.
Daniel whistled. “Wow. Balls of steel, man.” Then, after a beat: “I still can’t believe you’re the one who pulled this off.”
Max grinned. “Me either.”
Daniel narrowed his eyes. “If you propose before Charles finds out, I’m not helping you escape.”

Text Conversation: Max Verstappen & Victoria Verstappen
Max: Are you already at the circuit?
Victoria: Just pulling in. Got Luka. Snacks. One million toddler wipes. Why?
Max: I need a favor.
Victoria: This sounds serious.
Max: It is.  Isabelle’s here. Her brothers left without her this morning. Yesterday, they forgot to book her a room. She was alone at the hotel with nowhere to go.
Victoria: You’re kidding.
Max: I wish I was. I found out when she texted me.
Victoria: She texted you instead of calling them?
Max: Said she didn’t want to make a fuss.
Victoria: That’s not a fuss. That’s basic human decency.
Victoria: What the hell is wrong with her brothers?  Did they think she just… didn’t exist this weekend?
Max: I don’t think they thought at all.
Max: I’ve got her staying with me, obviously.  But I’m at the car most of the day. Can you…  I don’t know. Just keep an eye on her?
Victoria: I’m already on it.  I’ll find her. Luka adores her anyway.
Max: Thank you.
Victoria: Also—Max?
Max: Yeah?
Victoria: You’re doing good. For her.  I can tell.
Max: I just want her to feel safe.
Victoria: She does. That’s why she called you.
***
The Ferrari garage buzzed with the usual race day chaos—engineers shouting data, mechanics darting between screens and tires, media cameras hovering just out of reach.
Isabelle stood off to the side, tucked just behind a stack of spare tires. She had her accreditation lanyard looped around one wrist, arms crossed over her chest, her expression unreadable.
No one had said anything to her.
Not Charles. Not Arthur.
Not a single “where were you?”
No one had noticed she hadn’t arrived with them.
Not even when she slipped through the paddock gate forty minutes late with Daniel Ricciardo, who’d given her a cheerful wave and then glanced back at her with a concerned little frown, like he could feel her shrinking into herself.
She hadn’t told them. Hadn’t reminded them. It felt pathetic, like trying to make a dent in something carved from stone.
So she watched them from the background. Charles adjusting his earpiece. Arthur laughing with his race engineer. Everyone moving like she was part of the set dressing—quiet, reliable, conveniently invisible.
Her phone buzzed.
Victoria Verstappen:
Come to Red Bull hospitality. We have fruit, juice boxes, and a child who keeps asking where you are.
A second later:
Victoria Verstappen:
He refuses to eat his banana unless you’re here. Help me.
Isabelle smiled before she could stop herself.
She glanced back at the garage—no one looking, no one asking, no one even noticing she was there—then quietly turned and slipped out through the paddock gate.
The moment she stepped into Red Bull’s space, it was like the air changed. Quieter. Calmer. The edges softened.
And then—
“Belle!”
Luka barreled into her legs like a small, over-caffeinated torpedo, throwing his arms around her knees and looking up with wide, expectant eyes. His curls were slightly flattened from his bucket hat, and his juice box was clutched precariously in one hand.
“I saved you a banana,” he said solemnly.
Isabelle crouched down, her heart tightening. “You did?”
He nodded. “Mum said I had to eat fruit, but I said ‘no’ until you came.”
Behind him, Victoria appeared, holding a mostly squished banana and a tired smile.
“You’re now officially the only person Luka will eat produce for. Congratulations,” she said, handing Isabelle the banana.
Isabelle stood and hugged her.  “You okay?” Victoria asked gently.
Isabelle hesitated. “I’m fine.”
Victoria just arched a brow.
“I mean—I’m okay,” Isabelle corrected. “A little tired. It’s been a weird weekend.”
“You don’t have to explain,” Victoria said. “Max already told me everything.”
Isabelle winced. “Of course he did.”
“Don’t worry. He asked me to keep an eye on you. Very seriously. Like I was being recruited for a mission.”
Isabelle blinked. “He what?”
Victoria shrugged. “You’re important to him. Of course he’s worried.”
Luka tugged on Isabelle’s sleeve. “Wanna draw race cars?”
“I would love to draw race cars,” she said, letting him take her hand.
Victoria reached for a juice pouch and smiled softly at her over Luka’s curls. “Come sit with us. Eat something. You don’t have to go back to that garage today. No one there deserves your company.”
And Isabelle—still tired, still aching in that quiet, unseen way—followed.
Because it wasn’t loud.
It wasn’t flashy.
But it felt like home.
***
Victoria had known Isabelle Leclerc for years without really knowing her.
A couple of polite nods in paddocks. One or two mutual “Happy Birthday” comments under photos. That sort of F1-adjacent proximity that meant you were vaguely aware of someone’s life through a filtered lens of curated smiles and race weekend lighting.
And then her brother had fallen in love with her.
And that had changed everything.
Somewhere between a soft photo of Lio holding a wooden toy horse and Isabelle quietly liking every story Victoria posted about motherhood, something shifted.
Their friendship had started in Instagram DMs and lessons of dutch.
And now, sitting on the plush couch in the Red Bull family lounge, Victoria watched Isabelle cradle Luka like she’d been made for it.
He was wrapped around her torso like a baby monkey, eyes already drifting shut, his small hand clinging to the neckline of her cardigan. Isabelle’s hand was in his hair, gently combing through the curls with practiced ease.
Victoria’s heart clenched.
Max had chosen well.
Not because Isabelle was sweet (though she was), or thoughtful (painfully so), or talented (clearly), but because Max had never once let anyone in like this.
He had flings. Flirtations. A relationship or two that never made it past the media glare.
But this?
Isabelle, sitting cross-legged at a coloring table, nodding patiently as Luka explained crayon colours with the enthusiasm of a sugar-high professor?
This was different.
This was real.
And when Max had texted her that morning —Can you keep an eye on her?—Victoria hadn’t even blinked.
Because she knew.
He wasn’t asking out of obligation.
He was asking because Isabelle mattered. Because she was his person. Because her quiet pain had become his problem to carry, and Max Verstappen had never once backed down from something he gave a damn about.
Victoria watched Isabelle gently brush Luka’s hair out of his eyes as he leaned too close to the table, crayon smearing on his elbow, and something in her chest ached.
Because she’d also seen the way Isabelle’s brothers looked past her. The way they forgot her. The way she was a fixture—not a presence. Easy to love from a distance, easier still to forget when something shinier demanded attention.
It made her furious.
It made her want to storm the Ferrari garage and shake Charles and Arthur like snow globes until they remembered who the hell their sister was.
Because if a three-year-old could recognize her worth after one afternoon, what excuse did they have?
Victoria was still fuming quietly when the door to hospitality opened—and Max stepped out onto the terrace.
He spotted them instantly. His shoulders dropped just a little. Not with weariness, but relief.
He crossed the room toward them, his steps sure and unhurried.
And when Isabelle looked up and lit up—not with surprise, not with hesitation, but that soft, unmistakable joy that came from knowing someone was hers—Victoria exhaled.
Max reached them, crouched beside Luka first.
“Hey, little man,” he said, ruffling his hair.
“Max!” Luka beamed. “We made cars!”
“Very impressive,” Max said, scanning the drawings. “Yours definitely wins in the flame department.”
Then he looked at Isabelle.
Their eyes met.
No one said anything for a beat. They didn’t need to.
Max touched her wrist gently. “You okay?”
She nodded. “Better now.”
And Victoria—who’d seen every version of her brother: stormy, closed-off, sharp-edged and impossible—watched as his whole expression softened into something rare.
Something like peace.
She smiled to herself, sipping her drink again.
About time.
Max hadn’t just fallen in love with her.
He’d gotten it right.

Meanwhile on Twitter:
@/F1Sleuth: GUYS. I was at Zandvoort today and I just saw Victoria Verstappen and Isabelle Leclerc talking in the paddock like they’re actual best friends??? Since when???
↳@/GridGossip: You’re lying.
↳@/TifosiNation: They follow each other on Instagram now, so maybe it’s not that surprising???
↳@/RedBullRumors: But like… why do they know each other that well?
↳@/PaddockSpy: Do you have PICTURES?
@/F1Sleuth: I couldn’t get a clear photo, but I swear to god Victoria’s little boy was obsessed with Isabelle. Like, full-on clinging to her, as they were sitting in Red Bull hospitality. This was NOT a casual “oh we kind of know each other” interaction.
↳@/PitLanePrincess: Excuse me?????
↳@/TifosiForever: I guess it makes sense? Isabelle was around during karting when Max and Charles were kids, so maybe she and Victoria knew each other back then?
↳@/RBfan44: Imagine if Charles and Max are rivals but their sisters became best friends instead lmao
↳@/PaddockGossip: Omg that’s adorable 🥹
@/F1GossipQueen: Maybe they just reconnected? Like old karting friends finding each other again.
↳@/RBUpdates: This is actually really cute, imagine the Verstappens and Leclercs becoming one big happy F1 family.
↳@/TifosiFan99: Charles and Max being forced into friendship because their sisters are besties is something I NEED to happen.
@/F1Sleuth: OKAY UPDATE. Max Verstappen just showed up and walked straight to Isabelle and Victoria. No hesitation. Like, he was SUPPOSED to be there.
↳@/RedBullInsider: Oh??? Oh. OH.
↳@/GridGossip: Why does this feel like a soft launch but also not at the same time???
↳@/RBfan44: I swear if Max and Isabelle are secretly besties, I’m going to lose my mind.
↳@/PitLanePrincess: Besties or… 👀
↳@/PaddockRumors: Max looked so comfortable. Like this isn’t a one-time thing. Isabelle smiled at him like she was expecting him to show up.
@/F1Sleuth: MAX TOOK VICTORIA’S BABY FROM ISABELLE LIKE IT WAS THE MOST NORMAL THING IN THE WORLD. They’re just sitting there, talking, while he’s holding his nephew??? I don’t know what’s happening but I need ANSWERS.
↳ @/PaddockGossip: I’m sorry but Max holding a toddler while casually talking to Isabelle Leclerc?? That’s suspicious. That’s weird.
↳@/RBUpdates: Someone check on Charles because wtf is going on
↳@/F1Conspiracies: I feel like we’re witnessing something we’re not supposed to know about yet.
↳@/RedBullNation: Okay but imagine if they’re just actual close friends and we’re all being insane for no reason.
↳@/GridGossip: But what if we’re not? 😏
@/PaddockInsider: Charles has no idea what’s happening because he’s STILL doing media. Meanwhile, his sister is chilling with Victoria and Max like this is a normal Sunday.
↳@/TifosiFan99: Charles is going to come back and be so confused lmao
↳@/F1DramaLover: Imagine him seeing Max holding a baby next to Isabelle. He’d actually short-circuit.
↳@/PitLanePrincess: Someone record his reaction PLEASE.
@/F1Sleuth: Max just leaned over and said something to Isabelle, and she laughed. Victoria said something too, and they all looked so comfortable?? This is actually driving me insane.
↳@/PaddockGossip: What is going on.
↳@/PitLanePrincess: Isabelle, blink twice if you’re secretly a Red Bull spy.
↳@/RBUpdates: The way Max just sat down and started talking like this was totally normal… yeah, something’s up.

Superstar Luo Binghe au. All the directors beg him to be in their movies because his fame will immediately assure success for anything they make. He’s handsome, charming, dedicated, and most of all, extremely talented. He even does his own stunts!! Women love him, and men who say they hate him will still watch his movies so they can figure out how to be more like him.
The only weird thing about Binghe as an actor is that he refuses to star in romantic films. He won’t kiss anyone, won’t pretend to date someone on screen, won’t even let another actor take over his role for the scenes he doesn’t want to do. His reason? He’s completely loyal to his husband.
Everyone thinks it’s stupid, obviously. You aren’t “cheating” by pretending to love someone else, it’s literally your job! Luo Binghe still refuses and says even he’s not good enough an actor to make anyone believe he could ever love someone other than Yuan-ge.
His fans hate this mysterious Yuan-ge. Because of his (probably insecure and jealous) spouse, all of Binghe’s fangirls cant see him sweep some y/n character off their feet. It’s even worse because they don’t know anything about this guy. Whenever someone asks to see or learn about Binghe’s husband, the star says he’ll never reveal Yuan-ge to the public, because he’s too beautiful and he doesn’t want everyone falling in love with him.
People kind of run with the idea that obviously this guy must be a total weirdo who Binghe is embarrassed to be seen with. That has to be the explanation, because no matter how perfect someone is, how can they have such a chokehold on THE LUO BINGHE??
Then, one day, years after Luo Binghe’s initial rise to fame…. He goes on a talkshow. With his husband Shen Yuan.
Obviously EVERYONE tunes in. No one uses TVs anymore bc of the internet, but just for this show, viewer ratings are the highest theyve ever been. Everyone wants to know what the fuss is all about with this guy to have Luo Binghe so down horrible.
And Shen Yuan isn’t a weirdo. He’s also not some pretty yesman. He makes jokes that make the audience burst into laughter. He’s opinionated, which is really refreshing when every other celebrity stays neutral on every topic to avoid losing fans. He’s polite, but he’s not a pushover. He’s likeable, but he’s not a try-hard about it. Referencing memes makes him an instant hit with the younger generations, and the calm gentle way he talks makes him a hit with the older ones. All of a sudden everyone is going, okay we see why Luo Binghe is obsessed with him.
Except… while shen yuan was making jokes and charming everyone, Luo Binghe was at his side, pathetically pawing at his husband for attention. The actor keeps whining every two minutes to be reassured yuan-ge still likes him. Whenever Shen Yuan compliments the host, Binghe looks like he’s about to cry. Whenever Luo Binghe jealously wraps his arms around shen Yuan everyone watching just rolls their eyes. Seeing them together people realize… shen yuan is the one that’s out of Luo Binghe’s league.
In just one hour public opinion goes from ‘no one can be worth binghe acting like that for’ to ‘luo binghe is so annoying, let shen yuan talk!!’
The next day someone finds shen yuan’s twitter and it blows up. He has his own fan pages now. There’s no pictures of him online other than the footage from the talkshow, so the fan accounts just post that over and over again. Shen yuan retweets a post about him with the caption “i never realized she was holding a plate of corn in this scene” and everyone loses their mind. Everything he says immediately goes viral bc that’s luo binghe’s attic wife.
People start nagging Binghe to post about Shen Yuan bc theyre so attached after his one and only publicized appearance. Binghe is super possessive, but yuan-ge tells him not to worry, so he relents and posts pictures of him and shen yuan on vacation. They’re together, holding hands… but shen yuan’s face and body are blurred out. It’s HORRIFYING. He looks like an eldritch monster bc luo binghe refuses to let anyone look at his yuan-ge in a swim suit, go away you perverts!! His instragram is now just full of pics of shen yuan where his eyes are blacked out so noone else can see how pretty they are. It’s nightmare fuel
Shen Yuan is unfortunately too unbothered to post pictures of himself. Everyone’s tired of Luo Binghe for “hogging shen yuan all to himself” when Shen Yuan is practically an internet celebrity now.
People go to watch movies and their theatre conversations sound like this:
“Oh, Luo Binghe’s in this one!”
“Who?”
“You know Shen Yuan’s annoying husband?”
“OH THAT GUY..”

Note
dudebros like mine cuz to them he’s like the sigma paterick bateman “he’s just like me” dude and get mad when u try to tell them he has feelings for daigo but they hate daigo cuz they think he’s useless. i do think the hate for daigo has died down from a few years ago thank god people are more understanding abt his character now
i do remember years ago people either being dismissive of daigo or just not liking him and thats fine you're allowed to do with that a character so w/e. it is cute though that i also do think people are starting to come around to. acknowledging what daigo's had to deal with at least LOL
the bit that did irk me when i saw it back then though WAS just blatantly misinterpreting mine's character to fit the 'patrick bateman' archetype without looking into him beyond that. that was bonkers

ni yao de ai — ryomen sukuna.
Tumblr media
“We saw you look up at your girlfriend after that game-winning spike. What was running through your head?” And Sukuna, grinning like a fool. “Ahhh, just hoping she’s proud of me, you know?” Then it became bigger and bigger. One after the other, he could not shut up. He was, after all, too damn in love. “Your girlfriend’s reaction went viral after your match. Do you watch those clips together?” And Sukuna, without missing a beat. “Hell yeah, we do. I send her all my favorite edits. Couple goals, you know?”

THIS WAS NOT OUT OF THE ORDINARY NOWADAYS, FOR YOU TO SIT HERE. Your long-time boyfriend, professional volleyball player Ryomen Sukuna, has always been a bit of a big deal. Well, you try to not make it to be but you both know that it is.
He was undeniably talented, incredibly confident, and dangerously charismatic. But it wasn’t until this past year, when he officially made Japan’s national team and became their standout player, that his star practically exploded.
And with that… came you.
You didn’t ask for it at all. The attention, the headlines, the fan-cams. However, by virtue of loving Sukuna, you had become a fair bit of a participant in his stardom. And it wasn’t like Sukuna did it on purpose.
Well, actually he kind of did. Because if there was one thing about your boyfriend, it was that he never shied away from publicly loving you. In fact, he leaned in. Hard.
And you?
You could never say no to him when he asked. Ever. Because you loved him as he is, and that includes loving you. And if supporting him meant occasionally being pulled into the spotlight alongside him. Well… you’d do it a million times over. That’s how much you loved him.
It started small at first.
Little moments here and there.
Well, he tried to ease you into it.
Like when Sukuna played his first international match for Japan, and you sat quietly in the front row with his family. You thought you were being lowkey, just there to support your love. But the cameras caught you. Multiple times. Your face blown up on the jumbotron — smiling, proud, hands clasped in silent prayer every time he served.
Sukuna noticed you on the screen mid-game, and instead of ignoring it like any normal athlete would. And then he would go on and smirk. Then almost like he can’t help it, he winked at you. On live television. You damn near sank into the earth.
The clip instantly blew up on Twitter.
Everyone on the internet lost its mind.
Suddenly there were viral captions like:
“When the national team’s ace makes eye contact with his girl mid-game and winks?????”
“The way he’s SO unapologetically in love I’m crying.”
“The girlfriend has MAIN CHARACTER ENERGY I’m obsessed.”
And you? You just wanted to disappear.
Ryomen Sukuna, on the other hand, ate it up.
“You see how they love us, babe?” he grinned later that night, scrolling through TikTok edits of you two.
“My love, I was literally just sitting there.”
“Nahhh, you were the cutest girlfriend alive.”
“Stop watching the videos, I look like I was going to hurl because of nervousness.”
“Nope. I’m obsessed with us. Sorry, babe.”
But then it started escalating. Almost too quickly. The more Ryomen Sukuna won on the national stage. And the more the media realized he could not shut up about you. The more you started to become a topic. At first, it was small questions during post-game conferences.
“We saw you look up at your girlfriend after that game-winning spike. What was running through your head?”
And Sukuna, grinning like a fool. “Ahhh, just hoping she’s proud of me, you know?”
Then it became bigger and bigger.
One after the other, he could not shut up.
He was, after all, too damn in love.
“Your girlfriend’s reaction went viral after your match. Do you watch those clips together?”
And Sukuna, without missing a beat. “Hell yeah, we do. I send her all my favorite edits. Couple goals, you know?”
And suddenly you were trending on Twitter at every single match.
People started calling you “Japan’s National Team Girlfriend”.
There were TikToks like “POV: You’re dating an Olympic-level volleyball player and he’s obsessed with you”. Someone even made a fan account dedicated to you. Some people are making fan accounts about the two of you. It was just insane.
You were horrified about it.
You never expected this.
Sukuna, however, was thriving.
“Babe, you’re famous now.”
“I am just—this is crazy, my love. I didn’t think this for myself.”
“Too bad. You’re dating a national treasure. That makes you one too.”
“You're the only national treasure here, not me—”
“Wrong. We’re a package deal. We always have been, babe.”
“Well, fuck. Looks like I gotta know how to deal with this.” You sighed, leaning into the couch. “You’re lucky I love you so much.”
“I love you so much.” He says, looking at you with those warm loving eyes. “Very much.”
You sighed, moving close to lean into him. “I love you too. Very much.”
And then, of course, came the Vogue interview soon after that.
Sukuna got asked to do a pre-Olympic feature for Vogue Japan. It was going to be a full-blown video interview and magazine spread to highlight him as the country’s volleyball superstar heading to his first Olympic Games.
You didn’t think much of it at first—until Sukuna casually mentioned. “They wanna do a segment with you, too.”
You froze. “Wait. What?”
“Yeah, you know….like those….interviews we watch.” Sukuna said it, like it was the most casual thing. “Like a couples segment. You know. Cute shit.”
“Okay, but this is insane. I don’t think I’m good enough to be interviewed for a magazine like Vogue.”
“Yes, you are. You’re the most beautiful and smartest person in the world, like the coolest. How could you not be in the magazines?”
“You’re just saying this cause you’re biased.”
“So?” He snickered, leaning closer to you like a cat to his owner. “Isn’t my opinion the only thing that matters?”
“My love, please—”
“Babe, come on. It’ll be fun. Just some quick questions. I’ll be right there with you.”
“Are you sure you want me there?”
“I always want you with me.” He whispers to you, eyes adoringly looking at you. Almost begging. “Please come with me.…I’ll make it worth your while later.”
You can’t say no to him. Not like this. Not ever. You sighed. “Fine. I’ll go with you.”
And so, here you are now, right beside your boyfriend, in this studio.
The massive studio hummed with quiet energy. You could feel the subtle buzz of camera equipment, the low chatter of the production crew, and the muffled thuds of footsteps as people flitted around making last-minute adjustments.
Despite the growing tension in the room, there was one person who looked like he couldn’t be less bothered and that was Ryomen Sukuna himself. Your beloved Sukuna is now Japan’s top star volleyball player right now.
The man who was about to debut in his very first Olympic Games. And yet he sat there like he was in his living room, entirely unruffled by the cameras or the fact that the world was about to have their eyes glued on him.
To him, this was just like any other day. It was nothing special, nothing worth that much of a fuzz. It’s media day. Well, of course he was with you. That was always something that made him happy.
But the occasion in itself just as it was, like on all work days.
It truly did make sense for him to be like that.
After all, Sukuna had been through enough media circus for the past few years. With all the pre-game conferences, after-game interviews, constant media coverage during training camps.
By now, cameras had become like background noise to him. Even though he wasn’t the most camera-savvy person, he had long accepted that it came with the job. As much as you have.
Though, you know it was just still so insane. This level of fame was not something you expected to see. But well, what can you do? Your boyfriend is an ace at anything he does, and he always will be.
So here he was now, gold chain glinting under the bright studio lights, his long arm draped casually behind your chair as if he had all the time in the world. His thumb, rough, calloused from years of playing was tenderly brushed the curve of your shoulder absentmindedly, warm and familiar. His long legs were spread obnoxiously wide, his knee brushing against yours like it belonged there.
You, however, were fighting down a giggle like you did when you were both younger. It wasn’t fair how good he looked in front of the camera. Your Sukuna was in his official team Japan tracksuit, sleeves shoved up to his elbows, exposing his tattooed forearms.
His messy pink hair was styled back, just enough for his sharp jawline to be obnoxiously prominent and his signature smug grin made it look like he had already won gold before even stepping onto the court.
And then like he could feel you staring, Sukuna leaned toward you.
You raised a brow as you finally noticed his ruby eyes tender on you.
“What? There something on my face?”
“Bet I can answer faster than you, babe.” His voice dropped low, just for you to hear, the gravel in his tone sending a pleasant shiver down your spine.
You snorted, glancing at him. “Yeah, okay. Just don’t embarrass me, my love.”
His grin sharpened, canines flashing. “No promises, babe.”
You groaned to yourself.
You were so screwed.
He’s competitive even on this.
The interviewer settles in her seat across from you both, a friendly smile on her face. “Alright, we’re rolling!” she calls out. “Let’s give them a warm welcome!”
The crew claps behind the camera and you and Sukuna stand up, quickly bowing your heads lowly to everyone in the room, greeting them politely one by one. The crew did the same, with eyes full of awe as they both looked at you two as you sat down.
“Alright, hello everyone!” the interviewer finally smiled, straightening in her seat. “We’re here today with Ryomen Sukuna, Japan’s powerhouse volleyball player heading to his very first Olympic Games — and we’ve got his longtime girlfriend, [Your Name], who is also a Astrophysics researcher joining us today!”
Sukuna perked up a little at that introduction, his grin widening. “Renowned, huh?” He turned to you, his voice dropping low, teasing. “Damn, babe. Are you that famous now, my baby?”
You rolled your eyes, fighting down a smile. “Says the Olympic athlete. Let’s not do this, please.”
The interviewer laughed. “We are so excited to have you both here. Thank you for making time despite your hectic schedules — especially you, [Your Name]. I imagine taking a break from Astrophysics research work isn’t easy?”
“Oh—” you started, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear. “I mean, I really shouldn’t have gotten a break. I was actually supposed to have a research advisory today…”
Sukuna turned to you sharply, his brows raising. “Wait—what?”
You blinked. “…Huh, what?”
“You never told me that. I thought you just got permission.” Sukuna scoffed, his head tilting. “Babe, you really have a major advisory today? How the hell did you get off work?”
“Ohhh, yeah…” you cringed, rubbing the back of your neck. “Yeah… funny thing about that.”
The interviewer’s interest piqued. “Oh?”
You hesitated and then bit back a smile. “So… My head researcher’s daughter is actually a huge fan of Sukuna. Like, borderline obsessed.”
Sukuna’s brows shot higher. “Wait, what?”
“Yeah.” you chuckled sheepishly. “And when they found out I was doing this interview with him, my boss was like, ‘Yeah, just get me his autograph and I’ll look the other way on you missing the advisory.’”
Sukuna immediately cackled. “Really? That’s damn hilarious.”
“Swear to god, it's crazy in there when it comes to you.” you laughed, sinking a little in your seat. “He told me, ‘If you get me a video of him saying hi to my daughter, I’ll even let you off the hook for the paperwork you forgot to pass last week.’”
“Babe.” Sukuna turned his entire body toward you, his grin practically ear-to-ear. “Why didn’t you tell me that earlier? That’s easy. Just give me a pen later—hell, I’ll record her a whole-ass personalized video.”
You scoffed, blushing. “Oh my god, no—you don’t have to do that much—”
“Nahhh, I gotchu, babe, don’t worry.” Sukuna grinned mischievously, already plotting. “I’ll make her dad look like a hero. Gonna be like: ‘Hey princess, your dad is the real MVP for letting your fave’s girlfriend skip work today to give you content.’”
You smacked his arm, mortified. “Oh my god, you are so insane.”
The production crew lost it almost immediately.
The interviewer covered her mouth, laughing.
“I’m serious!” Sukuna laughed, scarlet eyes crinkling. “You know how many brownie points that’ll get you at work? You could literally ghost them for a week and they’ll still cover for you.”
“Oh my god, stop—”
“And the paperwork you forgot?” Sukuna shot you a playful smirk. “I’ll just sign it with ‘Ryomen Sukuna’s girlfriend is a genius, give her a raise.’ Boom. Problem solved.”
“RYOMEN SUKUNA.”
“Okay, okay, I’ll stop.” Sukuna raised his hands in surrender. “Just don’t call me that, okay? You know what my name is.”
The interviewer was crying. “I am so sorry, I can’t breathe—you guys are adorable.”
You slumped in your seat, burying your face in your hands. “I’m never living this down.”
Sukuna just laughed harder, his hand finding your thigh and giving it a warm squeeze. “Nah, you’re good, babe. I’ll make sure you’re employee of the month after this.”
The interviewer, trying to recover. “W-well! We really appreciate you being here, [Your Name]. Seriously. It's not every day we get a literal astrophysicist and an Olympic athlete in the same room.”
“Oh no, I should be the one thankful!” you stammered, still flustered from Sukuna’s antics. “Thank you for having me here with my love. Honestly, it’s such a privilege.”
Sukuna practically preened. “Her love. You guys heard that, right?”
You smacked his arm. “Oh god, don’t even start.”
“Too late, babe.” Sukuna grinned smugly, leaning back in his chair. “I’m riding that high all day. Like, that’s from the one I love right there. I’m riding this forever.”
“You can’t just—” You lower your face to your hands, feeling yourself warm. “Oh my god.”
“Don’t get embarrassed so fast!”
“I’m trying hard not to!”
The interviewer was now fully crying from laughing.
And you? You were about two seconds away from melting into the floor from sheer secondhand embarrassment.
You just can’t believe he’s like this today.
“So, uh, are you guys ready for some quickfire ten-second questions?” She asks as you finally recover, lifting your head.
Sukuna cracks his knuckles dramatically. “Easy. We’ve been together more than a decade or so. I can ace this.”
You scoff. “You’re gonna overthink everything.”
Sukuna feigns offense. “Excuse you? I’m very decisive.”
The interviewer laughs. “Alright, let’s put that to the test. First question: Sukuna, what’s your favorite pre-game meal?”
“Ramen.” he says instantly. Then, a beat later, “Wait. No. Her curry. Yeah, yeah. That one….the spicy one. Final answer.”
Your mouth drops open. “Are you serious? I thought you hated it.”
He grins smugly. “It’s true. I loved it all. Took another plate after you left. Your food hits different, you know?"
You roll your eyes but can’t help the blush creeping up your neck. “O–okay, I guess.”
The interviewer beams. “Cute. Okay, [Your Name], what’s his go-to post-game routine?”
“Oh, easy.” you say, straight-faced. “Complaining about his back. Then how he doesn’t like how Gojo Satoru took that line shot at him at a game. Take a ridiculously long, hot shower. He has a beer before we eat dinner. Then aggressively demands my cuddles.”
Sukuna sputters at you. “Aggressively?!”
You arch a brow. “You corner me in the kitchen. Every time.”
He throws his head back in a laugh, his large hand sliding to your knee. “Okay, fine. Fair point.”
The interviewer chuckles. “Alright, Sukuna — who’s the first person you call after a big win?”
He doesn’t hesitate. “Her. Always her. And she picks up, even mid-experiment.”
Your chest tightens, caught off guard by the sincerity in his tone. “You’re too much.”
“Hey, I really do call you the most after every match.”
“And after a loss?” she presses.
Sukuna leans slightly toward you, his arm shifting so his hand now rests protectively on your thigh. “Also her. But I’m significantly more annoying.”
You snort. “So much pouting. He becomes, like, unbearable.”
Sukuna gasps, clutching his chest dramatically. “Unbearable?! I’m mourning, babe!”
“You’re sulking. Just like right now.”
“Same thing!”
The interviewer is practically doubled over laughing. “I love this dynamic. Okay, favorite thing about each other — go.”
Sukuna’s answer is immediate. “Her laugh. Hands down. Best sound in the world.”
Your heart lurches, face instantly heating. “Oh my god, shut up—”
“No, like dead serious, babe.” he interrupts, his smile softening. “Could be having the worst day ever, and if she laughs? I’m good.”
You smack his arm, your face now an embarrassing shade of red. “You’re being gross on camera!”
Sukuna shrugs, unbothered. “Truth is truth, babe.”
The interviewer melts. “Okay, your turn, [Your Name].”
You stammer, still flustered. “Uhh—” you scramble to think of something non-cheesy, but instead, your mouth betrays you. “The way he always warms his hands before touching my face.”
Sukuna freezes. “…Huh?”
You blink. “…What?”
“That’s your favorite thing?” he asks, blinking at you like you’d just dropped a bombshell.
You squirm. “I mean, yeah. You do it all the time. Like, even if we’re just watching a movie or something — you always warm your hands first. It’s cute.”
The grin that spreads across Sukuna’s face is devastating. “You’re so obsessed with me.”
You physically groan. “Oh my god, shut up.”
The interviewer is practically swooning. “This is the cutest thing ever—okay, okay, next one. Sukuna, if you could steal any skill from your girlfriend, what would it be?”
“Her patience.” he deadpans.
You burst out laughing. “What?”
“No, like actually, I really think you mastered it so much.” he insists, leaning forward. “You have no idea how insane she is at staying calm. Like, I’ll be losing my mind over a game or a bad practice, and she’ll just—” he waves his hand, mimicking your nonchalant demeanor, “‘Okay, babe, it’s fine. You’ll win next time.’ Like. What the hell? Where do you get that?”
You’re dying of laughter. “It’s called balance, my love.”
“It’s witchcraft.”
You roll your eyes playfully. “Then learn it.”
He laughs at your words. “No, but I’m genuine about this. My girl can sit there and deal with a long day where her research yields bad results and do it again even though it takes long. And come home to me sulking and just know how to be just as patient.”
You looked at him, eyes full of love. “You’re so….I love you. Just a lot.”
He smiles back at you. “Love you too, babe.”
The interviewer sighed, whimsically. “I love you two so much. Okay, final question—and you both have to answer this.” She leans in dramatically. “What’s the very first thing you’ll do if you win gold at the Olympics?”
Sukuna’s cocky grin is instant. “Kiss her. On live TV.”
Your jaw drops “‘kuna, my love! Don’t just say that!”
“What?” he laughs, utterly shameless. “Manifesting, babe.”
“You’re disgusting.”
Your boyfriend snickers. “Yeah, you say that now but you’re gonna make out with me after this—”
“Oh my god, not here!”
The interviewer howls with laughter. “And what about you, [Your Name]?”
You glare at Sukuna but ultimately sigh in defeat. “I guess… I’ll let him.”
Sukuna beams, victorious. “See? Obsessed with me. You were lying earlier, hm? Saying you won’t and now here you are, you admit the truth. I am so vindicated.”
You slap his arm, but you’re grinning so wide your cheeks hurt. “You’re so annoying.”
“Yeah, but I am your annoyance. That's my happy life right there, being loved by you like that.”
The interviewer shakes her head, still giggling. “I swear, if you actually win gold and kiss her on live TV, I’ll play this clip everywhere.”
Sukuna’s arm curls around your shoulder, pulling you in. “You better be ready, babe. I’m serious.”
And the terrifying part? You can already picture it. Because you know that he can do it. He can win it all just like that. You could see the gold medal around his neck, the camera zooming in, and Ryomen Sukuna turning straight to you with that same smug grin before sweeping you off your feet.
You purse your lips into a flat line, blushing. “Yeah, yeah…..I’m prepared.”
The interview finally wraps up there.
You’re still a little dazed. The cameras, the lights, the overly intimate questions about your relationship—but Ryomen Sukuna? He still looks happy, still completely unbothered. Like he lives for this. Which, you suppose, he does.
His arm never leaves your shoulder as you stand to shake hands with the Vogue team, his thumb still brushing absentminded circles against your skin. And just as you think you can finally slink away into the background, done with all the attention, Ryomen Sukuna pulls you right back in.
“Babe, c’mon.” he murmurs, his mouth brushing your temple. “Stay for the photoshoot.”
You blink. “What?”
“The shoot. They’re doing my Olympic feature photoshoot now.” He grins like he already knows how this will go. “Hang around for a bit.”
Your eyes narrow. “I thought this part was just you?”
“It is.”
“Then why do you need me here?”
“Moral support.” he says with a teasing smirk. “Also, you look really cute today, and I need you to stand there and be hot while I take photos.”
You gawk. “My love…..”
“What?” He shrugs, pulling you even closer as he starts walking toward the set. “I’m serious. Just stand off to the side, babe. I’ll behave.”
You have exactly zero trust in that promise. But you sigh and let him tug you along anyway. Because at the end of the day, you can’t say no to him. You never could. Not then and certainly not now. That’s just how much you loved the man.
So you do stay. But you try your hardest to stay out of the way. This is just for him, and only for him. You shouldn’t meddle. This isn’t for you. You do not want to get involved. So you make sure he sees you but sees you preoccupied, as you take food from the snack pile and coffee from the coffee machine.
The photoshoot setup is expansive. There were grand lighting rigs, enormous backdrops, a team of stylists fussing over Sukuna’s hair and clothes. He’s already swapped his casual attire for his Japan national team uniform, crisp and iconic in its red and white.
And good god, you were stunned.
He looks obscenely good, even better than normal.
You were just hypnotized.
Like, you can definitely say that it's an actual deity-tier sort of beauty. Tall and lean, the muscles in his arms and thighs practically sculpted. His sharp features and dark tattoos look even more striking against the stark white backdrop. And the way he carries himself. It was that dangerous, unbothered confidence that had the photographers practically swooning as much as you were already.
You stand quietly off to the side, as you stuff yourself with snacks. You were doing your best to stay unnoticed and so far so good. But the moment Sukuna locks eyes with you from across the room, in the middle of his solo shoot, you already know you’re already fucked.
Because he grins. That stupid, sharp, predatory grin.
And you just know something is going to happen.
Because, you know that look on his face.
He’s about to pull some bullshit.
“Alright, Sukuna — tilt your chin up a bit. Perfect, perfect — can we get some more intensity in those scarlet eyes?”
He obliges easily, shifting his stance. For a few moments, you think you’re in the clear. Maybe he’ll actually behave. Maybe he’ll just get through his shoot without doing anything that would just throw you off your horses.
“Hey.” Sukuna suddenly calls out — loud enough for the entire set to hear. His gaze zeroes in on you. “Can she come here real quick?”
Your stomach drops.
The entire team turns to look at you.
Your soul leaves your body.
“I swear to god…..” you hiss, mortified. “No—”
“C’mon, babe.” he grins. “Just real quick. Just one picture.”
The photographer, looking intrigued, asks, “Wait — are you talking about her?”
“Yeah. Of course I’m talking about her.” Sukuna says smoothly. “That’s my girl.”
Oh my god oh my god oh my god.
You try to melt into the floor. “My love, no—”
“Babe, come on.” he says, mockingly sweet, “I thought you were here for moral support? Come on, just one picture. I won’t even ask them to include it in the spread.”
The team just absolutely loves what’s happening right now. They’re already whispering to each other, eyes lighting up with interest. One of the assistants, who was clearly a hopeless romantic, suddenly gasps, “Oh my god, can we get her in a couple of shots?”
“No, no, no you don’t have to.” you stammer, mortified. “I-I’m not part of the shoot—”
“You are now, babe.” Sukuna smirks, already striding over to grab your hand.
“My love, I’m not even— I didn’t sign anything—”
“Babe, relax.” he murmurs, tugging you right into the center of the set like it’s nothing. “You’re not doing a solo shoot. Just stand next to me. That’s it.”
The photographer, gleeful, immediately jumps in: “Oh my god! Yes, yes, yes. Let’s do a few couple shots. Just casual. We can get a few ‘power couple’ frames, I love this.”
“No, please, it’s not fair to you all or him.” you say, panicked. “It’s his shoot, I’m not supposed to—”
Sukuna grins down at you. “C’mon, babe. What’s one photo?”
You glare. “I hate you.”
“No you don’t.” He tugs you even closer. “C’mon, let me show off my pretty girlfriend a little. Please?”
“…I hate you so much.”
The next twenty minutes are the most unhinged photoshoot of your life.
It starts simple. Ryomen Sukuna standing tall in his Olympic uniform, with you just casually next to him. He’s still smug and composed, while you try your best to look like you belong there. But then it escalates, as it always does with him.
“Can you put your arm around her waist?” the photographer asks.
Sukuna immediately complies, almost too gleefully, you might add, as he was pulling you flush against his side, his arm curling snug around your lower back.
“Actually, can you lean down and nuzzle into her neck a bit? Just natural intimacy.”
You really could feel your soul just saying a hail mary and saying goodbye for good. Your Sukuna doesn’t even hesitate. His mouth brushes your temple, his nose drags against your skin, and he actually whispers in your ear: “Told you you’d be in this shoot, babe.”
“I hate you so much, like a lot. Right now.” you grit, cheeks burning.
“You love me, a lot. I can tell.” he grins. “Like look at that bright eyed love!”
“Can we get one with her in front of him? Like, you know, back to his chest?” The director suddenly says.
You barely have time to react before Sukuna’s already wrapping his arms around you from behind, his chin resting atop your head. His long fingers splay warmly across your stomach, deliberately making the pose look far too intimate.
The camera shutter goes crazy.
And then—the final blow from the director:
“Okay, for the last shot—Sukuna, can you kiss her?”
Your brain explodes. “WHAT—”
“Ohhh, I think I can.” Sukuna drawls, thrilled. “Hang on.”
“I swear to god, you can’t just—my love!”
Too late for any arguments, he’s made up his mind. His hand slides up to your jaw, his thumb tilting your chin just slightly. And then, without a hint of shame, he leans down and kisses you. Right there. On the set. With the cameras flashing like crazy.
It’s not even a small kiss. It’s full and lingering. It’s passionate and hot and burning. It was the type of kiss that only belongs to you two. Yet you don’t push him away or pull away. Instead, you let his hand cup the edge of your face, his mouth molds against yours, and you feel his stupid grin against your lips.
The photographer practically screams. “Oh my god, that was too good! That was just perfect!”
You finally part from him. But it took you a bit before you were back down to earth from the spellbound trip to love. “You are so annoying, I swear!”
“Babe.” he says, smug as hell. “I think we just sold out this magazine issue.”
“I’m going to kill you, that was too passionate! That’s just for us—"
“Please. You’re gonna frame these photos later.”
“Ugh, no I won’t!”
“You so will.”
And when the photos do come out, everything just shifts in the world. The entire internet loses its mind over Japan’s national volleyball ace and his head-over-heels-in-love girlfriend like he always is, you realize, miserably, that Ryomen Sukuna was absolutely right.
Because you do, in fact, frame one of the photos.
Well, almost all the photos you got.
And what does Ryomen Sukuna do?
He never shuts up about it.

epilogue
The group chat video call came in less than five minutes after the interview aired. You barely had time to process the fact that the clip of you and Sukuna had already exploded on social media — like a firestorm-level viral.
Your phone was pinging nonstop with texts, notifications, and Twitter mentions of people collectively losing their minds over “Astrophysicist GF x Olympic Athlete BF” like it was the rom-com of the century. Like it was the most important trope out there.
And just when you thought you could quietly crawl into a hole and die from embarrassment…
Incoming Video Call: “Menaces + Nanami (we tolerate him)”
“Oh my god no—”
“Babe, answer it!” Sukuna grinned, already stretching his long arm to grab your laptop. “I need to see what they’re about to say.”
“Sukuna, I’m literally not ready for this shit—”
“You’re literally adorable, babe. Don’t worry!” Sukuna smirked, already clicking Accept. “Let me enjoy my W.”
The call connected. Chaos immediately erupted.
Gojo Satoru (Camera OFF): “AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH—”
Geto Suguru (Camera ON):
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH—”
Nanami Kento (Camera ON):
“…Are you all seriously screaming?”
Itadori Yuuji (Camera ON):
“BROOOOOO THEY WENT SO HARD IN THAT INTERVIEW OH MY GODDDD!”
Fushiguro Megumi (Camera ON, Visibly Unamused):
“…I’m logging off.”
Gojo Satoru (Camera ON, Appearing Out of Nowhere):
“NO YOU’RE NOT, MEGUMI— OH MY GOD YOU TWO WERE INSANE.”
You immediately face planted onto the table, groaning. “Kill me. Just kill me now.”
“Babe, why? You were really cool!” Sukuna laughed, wrapping an arm around you. “This is literally my proudest moment.”
“Oh my god, this is just so—” You groaned.
“Bro. Bro, oh my god.” Itadori was crying. “Sukuna. The way you said ‘Her love. You guys heard that, right?’ I— I fell off my couch cheesing, bro. You haven’t changed!”
“RIGHT?!” Gojo practically screeched. “And then he was going like ‘I’ll get you employee of the month, babe.’ I almost died! This was so—I can’t even explain it!”
Sukuna was thriving. His grin stretched wide, his canines flashing. “Ayyyeeee, you finally got it Gojo! You got someone, so you understand right? You see how I held her down? Boyfriend of the year.”
“You really are, bro!”
“My love, stoppppp!” you wailed dramatically.
“Nah, babe. Let me cook from boyfriend to husband!”
“Okay but REAL TALK. [Your Name]. Explain to me why your head researcher just casually let you off work because his daughter’s a fan of Sukuna. Also, how the hell are there fans of Sukuna?” Geto Suguru says as he munches on his popcorn.
“Taking offense to that last part, Geto.”
“Hahaha, I don’t care!”
You groaned harder. “I really don’t know. But it worked. I mean, people are asking me for Sukuna’s autographs for their kids at the research facility.”
“No, cause that’s wild, actually.” Suguru laughed. “Your literal superior was like, ‘Get me his autograph and you can skip work.’ That’s insane. I wish I could do that.”
“Well you could had you gone to the same research dept as me.”
“Nah, I don’t wanna work there. Your deadlines are crazy.”
“Hey, my influence is really good for her right now!” Sukuna grinned, leaning into you smugly. “I’m basically her office’s MVP. They should name a telescope after me, if I’m being honest.”
“That’s not what I'm working on right now! That’s the other team!”
“Eh, same thing.”
“The Ryomen Sukuna Space Observatory, nice ring to it.” Gojo said dreamily. “Iconic.”
“Guys, really.”
“I would like to formally request to be excluded from this narrative.” Nanami Kento deadpans as he puts away his paperwork.
“Oh shut up, Kento. Are you still acting tsundere after all this time?” Gojo cackled. “You enjoyed it.”
“No. I did not.”
“Then why’d you text me ‘how did Sukuna–san improve in comedy? he’s hilarious.’ right after it aired?”
Nanami froze. “I did not do that—”
“YOU DID TOO!” Itadori gasped loudly. “I saw the receipts, senpai. You can’t just lie about that!”
“Lies.”
“Don’t deny it!”
“I will deny it, there’s no proof.”
“…Sukuna–senpai, I have to say, you being in love still after all this time really made me cringe.”
Gojo Satoru lost it. He almost fell off his chair, laughing. “That’s so—what the, that’s so—”
“See? People do cringe when you go lovey-dovey!” You tease him, and then laugh as you lean against him.
“Wow, didn’t know that’s your true feelings about me, babe.” Sukuna scoffed, faking offense as he playfully rolled his eyes. “No love for the Olympic boyfriend, huh?”
“You sounded like a sickeningly in love golden retriever, and it was disturbing.”
Sukuna snorted. “If I still had the privilege to order you one hundred laps, I would.”
“Hm, but you don’t.”
“All because you’re jealous. How’s your date yesterday? Bad like last time?”
Megumi recoiled like he’d been shot. “Senpai, that’s so—”
“Nahhh, I get it, Megs. Cause I’d be mad too if I was third-wheeling greatness like this, while I’m waiting on Cupid to give me luck.” Sukuna gestured grandly to you and himself. “It’s hard out here.”
“I hate you.”
“Don’t be mad, bro. Just manifest your own [Your Name].”
“I swear to god, senpai.”
“Again, manifest. Hell, I’ll even help you. My sister’s into you—”
“No, thanks.”
“Okay but can we talk about how senpai just easily offers the autograph AND the video like it's nothing?” Yuuji enthusiastically says, smiling from ear to ear.
“REAL! Like, this is so crazy. ” Gojo gasped. “He just casually said ‘I’ll make your boss look like a hero, babe.’”
“Bro is so down bad, man.” Geto snickers, drinking his beer. “Everyone’s losing their shit everywhere.”
“And then he was like, ‘yeah don’t worry, I’ll help sign your paperwork.’’” Yuuji grows louder, more enthusiastic than before. “I can’t believe people are seeing it more closely like this. You’re a lucky lady, senpai!”
“Yeah, who can say they have such a long loving thriving relationship, no?” Gojo teases, as he leans on the screen. “LIke, people are jealous!”
“Guys, please!” you howled, your head hitting the table as your face turned scarlet. “PLEASE STOP—”
“SU-KU-NAAAAA–SENPAIIIIII!” Yuuji screamed, clapping. “You’re built differently, man. This is why you’re not bitchless!”
“This is why you follow in my footsteps, Itadori.” Sukuna laughs proudly. “You will only end your suffering if you follow me. That goes for you, Nanami, Fushiguro.”
“No thanks.” Nanami and Fushiguro say, almost at the same time.
“Nah, cause now that I think about it….my girl’s gonna expect me to do well too, Sukuna.” Gojo says, rubbing his chin. “That’s such a cruel move, Sukuna!”
“Hey, I love my girl as easily as breathing.” Sukuna raises his beer can, like cheers. He grins. “Good luck. I’m here if you need tips.”
“…The fact that this interview is already at 4 million views is baffling.” Nanami whispers as he looks at his phone. “It was just released an hour ago.”
Your head snapped up. “I’m sorry, what?”
“Oh yeah, it’s viral now.” Megumi deadpanned. “It’s already trending. Twitter’s obsessed with you two.”
“Yup, yup.” Itadori confirmed. “Hashtag ‘Astrophysicist GF x Olympic Athlete BF’ is number one right now.”
“YOU’RE LYING.”
“Dead serious.”
“My love.” you whirled on him, horrified. “What did you do?”
Sukuna, entirely unbothered: “Won.”
“Bro, people are literally shipping you two like it’s a Netflix rom-com.” Gojo snickers, sighing. “I want mine to be like that.”
“Right?” Suguru agreed. “And they’re already calling you ‘The only loverboy to ever loverboy’ which is kinda crazy to say about Ryomen Sukuna.”
Yuuji sighed. “But it fits, don’t you think? He loves his girl.”
Sukuna beamed. “As they should.”
You were spiraling. “I can’t go back to work like this. They’re gonna tease me—”
“No, babe, you’re good.” Sukuna said smugly. “You literally got immunity. They’re too obsessed with me now.”
“OH MY GODDDD.”
“…So when exactly did you two sign up for a publicized rom-com?” Nanami asks.
“Bro, right?” Gojo laughed. “Next thing you know Sukuna’s proposing on live TV after winning gold.”
Sukuna gasped dramatically. “Wait. That’s fire, actually.”
“Hey, don’t you dare!” you screamed.
“Imagine it, though!” Gojo egged on. “He wins gold. Camera zooms in. Sukuna pulls you onto the court. Boom. Proposal.”
“Don’t give him ideas, Gojo Satoru!”
Geto cackles. “Nah, once you give Sukuna ideas and he likes it, he’s not gonna change his mind.”
“Write that down, bro!” Itadori gasped.
“Oh, I will!” Sukuna grinned.
“Ryomen Sukuna, I swear to god—”
“Hey, hey, slow down. That’s not my name.”
“I’m not stopping until you say you won’t do that.”
“Here me out, let me cook on this idea, like this is a really good idea. Come on!”
“No!”
